I don't know what to think? He poked me all over and put me on nurotin (sp). He did send me for some x-rays of my neck and told me to come back in 6 months. 6 months?!?!?!? No blood work ... nothing. He did say I have fibromyalgia. Hmmmmmm. 6 months ... gosh. He is supposed to be top notch. He didn't order an MRI even. He does want to check to see if I have degenerative disc in my neck but did not have x-rays taken of my hips or back. I am hurting soooooooooo bad. I guess I feel disappointed that he didn't do more? Is this typical with a rheumy? OR do I have bad luck with DRs?

Engel... I feel for you. What I can tell you is that when I had my first couple of appts. with my Rheumy he gave me mild meds and I suffered for another 6 months or so and after gathering info from here I realized not all of us have to accept that and suffer daily.

I finally just picked up the phone one day and called and told him I CANNOT suffer like this anymore and I don;t feel like I have to. It was almost like he wanted to see, which is a good idea, if I could deal with it and those meds. Long story short.. he mailed me a script for Percocet and has been mailing them whenever I need them. I am sure this is not common, but he has seen me at my worst and seems to really understand the Fibro. Although he is not the greatest for re-testing things and just says "Its the fibro", maybe it is and maybe it isn;t.

I just want to say to hang in there and I hope relief will find you soon. Can you maybe call back next week and explain that nothing is taking the edge off, etc. I am sure he is just trying the mild stuff first which makes sense. Unless ofcourse he is one of thos anti-narcotic Rheumys... I had seen a couple of those too and they did not seem to understand the pain at all.

Best of luck to you, please keep us posted. Hang in there.
(sorry about spelling I am falling asleep tired)
    Hugs

I felt like ... is that all there is???? I was gone 4 hours for basically the same thing I have been getting from my PCP which wasn't a whole lot. I even had elastic band on right ankle and foot because I am hurting so bad (I also walk with a cane). I am really sore from him ... but he had to do it. He apologized in advance. He said he didn't need to xray my knees cause he could hear them grinding and cracking ... He really hurt my arms/shoulders bending them around. :-( . His Rx for this neurotin was soooooo big the pharmacy couldn't fill it all and I have to go back Friday for the rest of it!!! The bottle I came home with is huge ... lol. He also said that this huge knot on my wrist/hand is a gangleon cyst! I have a lot of little ones but had no idea that they got that big and hard. The PCP had no clue what it was. I am not begging for pills ... just answers or guidance. He wants me to go to the support group in our city. And he mentioned this website.

Mine did blood work on the initial visit but it is because it appeared I had rheumatoid arthritis I guess. My bird finger joint on both hands was really swelled and hurting.

Six months seems to be a long time, but you can see him earlier if you were to need to. I see mine every 3 months. On my first visit, I got the most thorough going over that I ever had. I took off all except my drawers. Later they came down, lol. I really appreciated a doc checking this old bod out good though.

He must be very busy though with the six month intervals between exams. That's almost like twice a year...

I wanted mine to order an MRI of my lower back/spine this past visit, but he said lets wait till next time. That kind of peeved me, especially since I have this cyst on my lower spine/tail bone. I have an appointment with a surgeon Tuesday.

    Regards,

    Andy

Did he give you instructions for starting slowly with the neurontin and working up to a full dose? My doc started me at 300 total/day and it took a month to get up to 1600.

my rheumy did the same thing when i went to see him..but he was the first to doagnose me so i was too excited to think about how wrong he is. he gave me neuronton and it screwed me up..then lyrica which also screwed me up. some people just need pain pills...those nerve blocker things dont work well for everyone...not too many anyway. he also gave me very painful trigger point injections and refused to give me meds for the post injection flare up (which was hell for 3 days). the good thing is he believed in fibro bad is that he doesnt believe in pain meds. but remember..every first doc visit hurts for the next week i have accepted that. but no more rheumys for me...im gonna go to the pain doc on monday who has fibro...i hope you feel better soon and speak up if the nueronton doenst help or gives you bad side effects! <3 Rachel

Sorry, but I feel that alot of Rheumys are worthless in treating FMS

I have been to 3 with no help!

My PCP does more for me than the Rheumy's I have been to

The Rheumys basically told me to "deal with it"
