    Hi there,

I've had the best luck in the world with a pain specialist!! I love her to death. She believes FM is real, talks to me like I've got a brain, listens to what I tell her, trusts me to fiddle around with my meds if I need to, good gosh, if she ever moves I'd follow her, and if she retires I'm planning on visiting her at home!!!

I'm in the Charlotte, NC area. Wish you were closer to here. I'd share her name with you.

Best of luck. Don't settle for second best when you go dr searching. Call the offices, talk to the staff and find out what the dr's oppinion is on FM. Ask for referals to other patients to see how they feel they're being treated.

I went to a pain management clinic but all my doctor did was tell me I had FM/CFS and manage my pain (guess that's why their called that) but never found out why I was sick.

It wasn't until I went to the FFC that I found out my FM/CFS was actually caused by lyme disease and viruses.

Hi Cilli I live in In. so I can't give you any drs. name, but yes they can bring much relief for many kinds of pain. I need to get spinal epadurels in my lower back several times a year just to keep walking. Then he also does my knee injections that replaces the cartlige in my right knee. Plus he also listens and prescribes a strong pain medicine Duragesic Patches for my fibromyalgia. This dr is great, but I did have one that didn't believe in this DD. So be careful and check them out before spending any of your hard earned money. My dr suggested trying Arizona last winter instead of staying here in In during the cold months. So away I went-----it really did relieve much of my pain while there, but soon as I got home it was right back again. I guess the drier weather out there helps make a differance. This year it didn't work out for me to get away so I am paying the price. Good luck finding a caring dr. They do exist. sniffles

    Cilli:
Just from my experience: I called the most respected hospital in my area that I could get to. I asked for the Rheumatology Department. I explained my situation and they gave me a doctor from the Department, who also teaches in Medical School as a Professor.

I went and he had helped me with pain. I get regualar medicine, now recently get nerve blocks by one of his associates. I also pay for a massage: one every two weeks.

Rheumatology is the route I took. Good wishes to you.

    Hugs,

Sorry, I always assume people know --- its the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Center and there are around 12 or so around the country.

People on this board have been having great success with finding out the root causes of their FM/CFS. Many have viruses and bacteria as the cause of their illness. For me it was lyme disease for which I am being treated along with viruses.

They also treat the whole body using bio-identical hormones, supplements to build up the immune system, anti-virals for the viruses and antibiotics for lyme.

You can do a search here on FFC and get lots of posts about them. Many have posted detailed reports of exactly what their treatments are. Each person is different depending on what they have and how long they have had it.

The pain doc I had been seeing was not very helpful with meds. The only thing he did that helped me was give me epidural injections in my low back for herniated discs. But believing in FM & treating that pain was like talking to a brick wall!! I hope you have better luck with this than I did. Not all are unbelieving morons!!!

I can't believe someone lives so close!!

I go to a Dr. Ruben in Citrus County actually in Hernando. I have had my problems with him understanding my condition and he has told me that he has turned away a fibro patient but he has hung in there with me for two years and has helped my pain finally.

He placed me on methadone 2 months ago after trying many things. He placed me on Cymbalta but it does little to help. Put me on Neurontin and did help for a time. Was on Lortab helped for a time. Tried many muscle relaxers and other things. He is not really one to listen to new advice or read stuff I have tried to give him but over the 2 years has changed his mind on some things.

I have stayed with him because I have not found anyone yet who will help with pain like he has. I have been to Mayo in Jax., rheumies in Ocala - Dr. Bookbinder - didn't like him at all Dr. Lafferty which was OK but not very helpful with trying other things.

I also had an appointment with Dr. Fallows at Naturecoast Pain Associates in Lecanto - I see that they have an office in Brokksville toobut I had to cancel because my pain meds ran out before going to them and had to refill with Dr. Ruben. Just decided to stay with Ruben because is so hard to change Dr.'s and start over again.

I have also gone to chiropractors in the area and they have tried to help. Will give names if you want. ALso massage therapy and physical therapy in Crystal River.

Dr. Ruben's number is 746-1358 at Citrus Hills Medical Center.

Welcome to our area!! Let me know if I can help in any way, I will try. I have only been diagnosed 2 years ago and am still learning how to help my body.
