I love Morphine for pain control, but the Kadian put me in a stupor for about 36 hours. I prefer the short acting type, MSIR, because it allowed me to better control my pain treatment. Kadian is a time release formula.

And that's why they prescribe the time release Morphine. My situation was a little different. First, just about any opiod makes me very sleepy, so I try to avoid them. Second, my FMS pain was typically only bad at night. Using the short acting allowed me to take it at night only and it would take care of the pain for the whole next day. If I had an especially bad time, with pain during the day, I could just take it during the day too. It didn't seem to spike in me, so I didn't experience any peaks and valleys. We are all different, and if someone needs opiods all day and night, the time release is the way to go.

Many docs are afraid of Morphine because it is often given toward the painful end of a life, so they associate it with cancer and other painful terminal illnesses. Two of my own docs were horrified when my pain specialist prescribed Morphine for my pain. It was the best thing I ever did. It allowed me to control my pain until the Guai treatment kicked in and also allowed me to do physical therapy, which eventually reduced the pain as well.

My goal was always to get off the Morphine and I have except for every once in a while when nothing else works. I usually take nothing for pain anymore. I believe the Klonopin is helping with the pain too.

I'm glad to hear the Morphine is helping you. Morphine is one of the best meds for pain and one of the safest.
