Do they often run side by side??
My best friend, who has always been fit as a Mallee Bull became VERY ill after having her 5th child.

Alot of her symptoms were VERY similar to Fibro, but she had some that were a little different. Her Dr initally thought CFS, but it didn't really sit with her or me because her main symptom was PAIN.

Anyways fast forward & she has been diagnosed with Hashimoto's, treated for it & told that she should be doing 'fine'.

That said, she is improved some, but she is still in alot of pain. The headaches & muscle pain are blowing her away :(

She went to see a specialist the other day that wants her to loose a very large amount of weight (she is overweight, but carries it very well & is very active.)

She spoke to him about still being in alot of pain & he did the trigger point test on her. She said that it was utter agony & when I spoke to her the next day she was still hurting from it :( But from that he told her that her pain was just being caused by inactivity?? And that she needed to exercise more. Heck this girl is one of the most active people I know.

I feel like he was looking at her size & the pain that she is in now, & not looking at what kind of person she has always been... Up until 7 months ago when she got sick...

The specialist doesn't want to see her for a YEAR??!! So until then she is to just struggle on :(

I'd really like for her to see my rheumy...

So I know that there are those here with Hashimoto's & FMS, are the symptoms of the two different?? I think that if there's a possibility that she has FMS on top of the Hashimoto's, that she really needs to be seen before 12 months is up.

I think most fibromyalgia patients have thyroid problems. I know I do. I have hashimotos which caused me to have a goiter. I am on Armour Thyroid now. Have been for years. I believe low thyroid levels do contribute to FM. I think your friend needs to be seen sooner, and it does sound like she probably does have FM too. I hope not, for her sake.
Take Care and let us know how your friend does!

Thankyou Kellyann, I knew there were at least a couple of people here with both.
I will deffinately have a chat to her, I really think that she needs to be seen sooner rather than later ;)

Lisa .. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's BEFORE the fibromyalgia .. also a goiter more on the inside of the throat .. can be very uncomfortable.
Also .. beware .. I have had a bad experience with the rheumy I was seeing .. he was a complete idiot yesterday and I'm NOT going back ..I hope you can help your friend out .. we have so little support from the medical community at times you just want to SCREAM !
    Good Luck ! Fudge : )

she needs a new dr. who doesn't concentrate on her weight. I am sure that her weight would make arthritis wirse if she had that but, I didn't hear you mention it. That is terrible that that is all the dr thinks is wrong with her.

    best wishes, Pamela

I pushed the doctors for proper testing when my sister was diagnosed last year. My thyriod # was 840.

Do have hashimotos but now under control.
