She is without access to the internet and that is why we haven't heard from her. I hope she gets reconnected soon. I pray she and her family are safe in Mexico.

Has anyone heard from Victoria since the flu outbreak?

Had it already started when you heard from her? I am unsure of the time frame.

I don't think anyone has heard from her since the new flu outbreak. It is my belief that she is still without internet access. I'm sure she will e-mail Nanna as soon as she is back online. As far as I know, Vic isn't living in a densely populated area. That seems to be where the worse problems are because of people being on top of one another. Many places in Mexico are like third-world areas. Poverty keeps people from accessing healthcare and they don't live in clean conditions. Tourist areas may look better but the people who work in them often live in horrible conditions that tourists never see.

I keep her and her family in my prayers. If I hear anything, I'll let y'all know.

for all your good wishes and thoughts...

Yep, I'm still alive and well, deep in the rural areas of Mexico. I did have some flu last week but it was very mild and I doubt it was the H1N1 type. However my DH got cellulitis at the same time for some unknown reason and I had to take him to the nearest best big city hospital (about 1.5 hours away). He spent 2 nights with lots of IVs and consults. Amazingly the total bill was only about $1,000 USD, including the specialists (who spoke English!).

RE the flu... I noticed that the WHO has dropped the verified number of those who died from it in Mexico to 10 rather than 20... either way, much less than what they were initially reporting. I think the media has inflamed fears. Despite that tho, precautions prevail and we told our daughter to hold off on visiting us til things calm down inthe US now even tho it has declined here.

I am in a 'hollow' between mountains and out of range of the main internet cell towers :( The one that is in sight stopped carrying it as my neighbor apparently was the only one subscribing. Other than erecting my own cell tower (someone I know spent about $6500 USD for a 30 meter tower in a similar situation), only satellite is available. Unfortunately Hughesnet doesn't have a very good rep for reliable service as they apparently arbitrarily cut bandwidth... but it would be the cheapest even tho voip won't work well on it (despite what they advertise).

Right now I'm visiting where I was renting, my landlady/friend let me leave my computer in a safe room so I can use it when I really need it; too bad she's an hour away from me tho! :( So I only come up when I have business to do, which doesn't leave me much time for anything else unfortunately.

all the best to y'all.... I'll be back one of these days... I hate TV, sure wish the satellite service for it would carry internet as well!

We have all been wondering and worrying. Hope both you and hubby are feeling

Your cheerful posts are greatly missed here. Did you go to a cineo de
Mayo festival? Learning new recipes? Speaking more Spanish?

    All the best
