Help! Cortisone injection is REALLY messing me up!

Tuesday I went to my PCP because the pain in my hip had gotten so bad I was just about in hysterics. Bursitis, says he (somehow, fibromyalgia NEVER plays a part in ANY of my visits, because he "doesn't believe in it". Thanks God my pain specialist does). Also, thank God I keep my own medical records because he says "Let's try Indomethacin!"
"You prescribed that two months ago."
    "Ok, then Hydrocodone!"
    "I'm allergic to opioids"
"I have liver disease". By this time I am wondering why the heck he is walking around with his little notebook computer, unless it's to check football scores, because it sure isn't helping ME any!
"Then we'll inject it with cortisone"
    "Is that safe?"
    Oh, absolutely!"

So we did. And I should have known. I should have checked before. I'm an idiot! I'm DIABETIC!

My blood sugar spiked to 440 today. I have fast acting insulin, but even with that, it is slow to come down. Every muscle in my body is aching, and I have been awake for 3 days. Even my Ambien and Robaxin don't help with sleep, because I lie awake, drowning in my own sweat. I feel like I'm living in a greenhouse. I even went outside last night just to cool off (I live in Alaska. It's 7 below zero). I am hoping this is temporary, because I don't want to go to the hospital. I'll only wind up seeing - guess who? - my doctor! It's just a small, community hospital that thinks their doctor's NEVER make mistakes. I know if my sugar gets any higher I will HAVE to go, no choice there, but if anybody has had this happen, I'd really appreciate all the advice I can get! Thanks!

Well, it's half of what it was, but it's been spiking like this for 5 days. I'm a Type 2 and I have Lantus, which I take twice a day, and then my fast acting Novolin R for emergencies. I don't eat anything with sugar and use stevia, but I know it finds it's way to just about everything you buy these days! I wouldn't be surprised if they sprayed it on the produce at Safeway, or the chicken I bought had been fed a diet of Snickers! LOL!

It might be time to shop for a new doc. This one sounds as though he is not really taking you or your illnesses seriously enough to "first do no harm." Good luck to you.

    Love, Mikie
