Been a longtime since you have been here! Glad to see you.

Mikie is still here, she is mostly on in the morning. Cactus Lil was here this week, hopefully she will be back soon.

    Jackie has left.

I can't help with your question, and your post went to the second page. The board is moving like a train for the last week! I have to go back three pages just to keep up with the days posts right now.

How have you been? I sure hope not too bad..........

Take care, and I do hope you get some replies.

    Shalom, Shirl

I just did the pain specialist thing a month or two ago. Actually, it was the 2nd time I've done it. The first was several years ago when I was searching for what was wrong with me (before my fibro dx). Needless to say, it was not a pleasant experience. Not at all. Scared me away from pain drs for years...

But enough of that. My last pain specialist was really good. It was a team of dr's that I saw--not just one. They listened to me better than almost any dr I've ever had. They put me on a duragesic patch program, where you use the patch to cover up the pain and then do TONS of exercise. Then, in 3-5 months, you're supposed to come off the patches and the exercise should have helped you. I didn't make it more than 4 weeks into the program--I had severe reactions to the duragesic patches and couldn't continue.

Anyway, I'd say go for the pain specialist--hope you get better results than I did! Also, just a word of advice: don't let them treat you like a statistic or a number--pain dr's tend to do that.

    Good luck!

I have been seeing a pain dr for the past yr and he has helped me tremendously, changed my life after 10 yrs of Fibro. They took a very complete history so bring your records, I had to sign an agreement that while under their care I would not accept pain meds from any other drs. Through the year we kept trying one med after another, some made me very sick, like the duragesic patch, some just didn't work, but now I am on a regimen of meds that has given me a new lease on life and I am thrilled. I hope it works out well for you, good luck!

    Hi Marsha,

Started with a Pain Clinic last month. 1st visit went great. The dr actually sat and listened to me and everything I had to say and answered all the questions I asked and admitted when he did not have an answer. He kept me on the Vicoprofen I am currently taking 2 tabs 3x a day, and he started me on Topamax 25mg at bedtime. So far so good. I do not notice a difference but hope to as the dose is increased. (I was started at 50mg but it gave me a strange side effect of losing muscular abiltiy - stroke like) I was also given a unit similiar to the TENS but it also does deep tissue massage. It gives me 15 minutes of the pain reducing TENS and then 30 minutes of the massage. It is okay. I like it when it is on but do not notice any help after it is removed. But I keep hoping and thinking positive.
I highly recommend you give it a try ... what do you have to lose. I am willing to try things once (usually) :)

Jackie left because of disagreements and she is missed ... the site has grown and is still great. Shirl and Mikie do an awesome job. Welcome back!

I went to a pain clinic before I knew for sure that I had Fibro. The pain clinic would NOT do any thing for me. I finally found a Fibro dr. and atleast she is trying to help me...............I wish you luck, but I wouldnt go back.

Hi there! Welcome to the board!! I am supposed to be going to a pain clinic soon too. I am a little worried about it too. My jerk doctor made me believe that nobody is going to believe that I am in any pain. I hope that's not true. I hope that you have a positive experience too. I guess it's like going to any other doctor. There are good ones and bad ones. Good luck!!

As far as I'm concerned, those pain clinics were started by docs who were wimping out on giving their patients pain meds!!! Went to one....and will never do that again!!! And they can stick that nerve test thingy, where the sun don't shine!!! Hope ya'll have a good day....fleeta

When my gp would not refer me to a rheumatologist and wan't taking my pain seriously, I referred myself to a pain doctor. He has taken over most of my tx and my pain is manageable now. He is also a kind, gentle man, who doesn't look skeptical when I complain about pain.
