Besides CFS and a multitude of symptoms, I've now got hives. Does anyone know how to get rid of them? My primary doc and dermatologist recommended steroid creams and triple doses of zyrtec, but they didn't work. Any natural things out there? I've had these blasted hives for almost 2 years.

That's horrible. I'm so sorry to hear it.

I know the natural herb "stinging nettles" is supposed to help with allergies. Maybe a tincture would help.

You can get it at the health food store.

Can you connect them with anything you're eating, drinking, bathing with, washing clothes with?

My mom started getting bad hives from fabric softener and we had used it for years.

    My best to you.

I can't pinpoint any food or drink that causes/compounds my hives. Other external issues: I use 7th generation laundry detergent, but i do use fabric softener. I will stop that and see what happens. I use dove soap - gentle but not as natural as some products out there. I will try the vinegar bath for the itching. I tried benadryl-didn't work. I will also try the stinging nettles. I am going to a homeopathy specialist in a week for my hives and anything else she thinks she can treat. It's funny, every single professional i've seen thinks they can cure my CFS, headaches, digestive probs, etc. It doesn't matter if they are chiropractors, nutritionists, pt's, md's, psychiatrist, psychologist, massage therapist - they all think their specialty will be my answer. i think they actually believe it too. Thanks! I am going to google it and see if I missed anything the last time i checked on google...

You might want to try some peppermint oil and rub it on your hives. It's good for general itching, and also works great for headaches! Good for the digestion too...

I agree with the other postings though, you need to find out the root cause of your what's causing the reaction whether it's some product or just a lot of stress in your life. I've had hives a few times triggered by stress but they went' away pretty quickly on their own...

I have tiny red bumps all over my arms, legs, and back that itch like crazy. I don't know if what you have is lyme's disease, but why not check it out with your doc.

My mom broke out in hives (as I mentioned before) and she was having kidney problems.

You said you've been to the docs. have they checked your liver and kidney functions?

Just asking so you know that problems with those organs can cause hives and itching (generalized)

A lotion was also recommended, but never tried, was Sarna. You can buy it at the drugstore where the lotions are.
    It's an anti-itching lotion.

    Hope you get relief soon.

Hives are normally as a result of allergies to something.

Have you ever been allergy tested? You probably should look into it.

You can take Benedryl or any other antihistamine daily--like Allegra or something else that is not sedating to keep them under control. But they will never go away until you find the source of why you get them and eliminate it.

If the hives get really extreme, they can get in your mouth and close your windpipe. If you ever gets them that badly, call 911 and head to an ER fast! This happens to my son.

It might also help to get a large floor air cleaner with a HEPA filter if you can afford one. They help clear the inside air of pollens, etc.

Talk it over with your family doc.

I have been allergy tested in the past by every kind of practitioner there is. I have tons of allergies, but this is the first time I've ever had hives. My primary doctor doesn't know if I should go back to an allergist for testing again, because it could cause even more flare ups. She didn't really have any ideas. I have tried all benadryl, claritin and zyrtec, steroid creams, but I could use the benadryl cream for relief. I will go see a homeopath tuesday and see if she can get to the root of what's causing it. I've had a really tough week, but that's the way it goes.
