I am in a horrible flare. I have lots of complaints. I can live with the pain (I have grown used to it) The biggest issue right now is the extreme fatigue and lack of energy. I can sleep 15 or more hours a day. My awake time is made up of sitting around the house. I am no longer functional. I can't climb the stairs at work or even make it through the grocery store. I have a doc appt (with a new doc) tomorrow and thought I would ask for some advice. Any suggestions on meds that could help or tests that should be done would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

My suggestion was going to be, see your doctor. I think he/she needs to REALLY listen to you and your symptoms. Don't let them just pat you on the head and send you on your way. Ask what suggestions and treatments they would suggest for you. Be firm regarding how you feel, and don't let it be belittled. And hopefully your doctor will be one who is looking out for you!

Let us know how your appointment goes...

    My thoughts are with you.

and cognitive problems are the worst part of my CFIDS. It is getting better, but it has taken a long time to get to this point and I still have a long way to go.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Even if you test in the "normal" range, you may be hypothyroid. You may also be hypoglycemic. Are you on a low-carb diet?

Have you been checked for stealth chronic infections? Most of us have them and until they are addressed, we cannot heal.

Some have been helped with Provigil. It didn't work for me, but it has worked for some. It's a stimulant, but it works in a much smaller area of the brain than other stimulants and is, therefore, considered safer. The doc should give you samples because this stuff is expensive.

Are you doing anything to build up your immune system like taking colostrum and whey? Do you protect your gut with probiotics and digestive enzymes?

Is our doc giving you anything for quality sleep? I used to sleep all the time and still not feel refreshed. The ZMA sold here really helps with sleep and pain and it works synergystically with most other sleep meds.

    Good luck with the doc.

    Love, Mikie

    Amy,

I am not an expert but 15 hours does seem like a lot. Your body has got to be really hurting to be needing that much sleep. Either that or you are a cat.... Figuring you out, Amy, I suspect will require some detective work. That is where a trained medical professional comes in. I encourage you to visit a wide range of professionals including a FM specialist, a naturopath and a psychiatrist. Try to find someone you trust to help you make sensible choices. It can be very hard for you feeling so lethargic and in pain to experiment on yourself.

    take care,
    Paul

p.s. Maybe the energy problem could be resolved with the introduction in your diet of a little sugary cereal? Ha ha, just kidding. Just a little gallows humor. It's not quite as bad for me, but I am in the same boat. It sucks!

Thank you all for taking the time to respond to my post. Just a little more info on me before I tell you about my dr. appt. I have had the FM Dx for over 6 years along with a Dx of MCTD. I have had flares but have been able to manage with the help of various meds and help from FM pain specialist. I am currently only taking pain meds (Norco 2x day) for treatment.

The dr. appt was some experience. He talked down to me. Bless his heart, he even took the time to explain to me how FM can cause flare ups. I tried to keep a sense of humor but I don't have a great deal of confidence in docs. He did every blood test known to man (including thyroid). He gave me a shot of cortisone and Flexeril. He told me to take 2 weeks off work. (Not sure that I can afford that - might end up getting fired first). I have a return appt in 4 weeks. During that time, I will research everyone's suggestions.

    Thanks Again!

I know that no one has heard of it, it is new treatment for people who suffer from AD/HD, and also CFIDS/FMS...for brain fog and energy...I've been on it for a month now, it seems to help, but about noon i begin to poop out again, just not as bad.

I, too, have slept for 15 hrs and more. I once slept 12+hours, the telephone woke me. I got up, talked for 30 min, drank 2 cups of coffee while on the phone, hung up the phone, went back to bed and slept another 13 hours. No, I didn't feel rested even then. I can't imagine what it would feel like to wake up in the morning and feel rested, refreshed and full of energy...that must be the discription of HEAVEN!!!
