I've been on hydrocodone 10mgs, two four times a day. Also, soma, four times a day. The problem is that I've been on this amount for over a year and a half, and they don't work as well now. My pain level is about 7-8, and I don't see my DR. until the 8th of July. He's been a fairly good DR. , but finding someone else is not an option. My husband is a dectecive lieutenant, and I don't want anything that has the word oxy in it. I know its a good med for some and I AM NOT knocking it. It just wouldn't work out for me. Please, if there is anyone that can give me some ideas, I need to hear them. Thank you.

Ellen, this is not something we can help you with. We all react differently to drugs and even if we could suggest something, you need your doc to prescribe it. A week is too long to be in pain.

If this doc isn't a pain specialist, I would suggest you see one. They usually understand our type of pain better and have more treatment options they are willing to offer.

    Love, Mikie

You might be dealing with a tolerance issue. Talk to your dr about taking a break from the hydro for a week or so. Make him give you ultram or darvocet in exchange for the hydro. Just don't let him give you something as strong or stronger, you want to get your tolerance down so that your old dose of hydro will work once again. It will be rough but the rewards will be worth it. Talk to you doctor immediately don't wait a week. Just ask him about tolerance. Hope this helps.

I know some people are bent on narcs, but I swear by my topomax! Took me from a pain level of 9 to a 4!

Please do not stop your meds just by yourself or just cold turkey. Always ask your doc if you need to tapper them off, he may be too busy to remember to tell you to.
God's speed Ellie in getting pain resolved.

Please understand that I am not telling you to stop taking meds cold turkey. But I have so been where you have been and am just trying to tell you about tolerance. Please ask your doctor what would be the best course of treatment for you to take. I just don't want you to have to start taking more drugs just to get through the day, when the dose you are on will work for most people as long as your body has not become tolerant of that dose. Hope you feel better soon

Instead of taking the two pill at one time, try taking one, then wait about 30 to 45 min. and take the other one. This works better for me.

whats up with your husband. If you need the medication to help you he should be supportive. I worked as a Detective and for the last two years of that I was taking 40 mg of oxy twice a day with lorcet for brak-thru...In the years prior to the oxy I was taking lorcet for the past 13 years. It was the only way I was able to work, then this DD got so bad I had to quit working full time.
