My insurance company wants me to change from Lexapro to Prozac for FIBRO symtoms because of the expense. Does anyone here take Prozac and does it work?

    Hi Pat:

Ask your doctor if they can apply for a prior authorization from the insurance company. Some insurances will only pay for certain meds because they have a contract with the pharmaceutical companies. But if the doctors office fills out a form stating why you need this med versus the one that is usally covered, they will sometimes approve it. Sometimes insurance companies will require that you "fail" the drugs on their list before they will approve a different one.

    Good luck.

Prozac may work for you but these are 2 different types of drugs. They work differently in the body and you and your Doctor should discuss this. Often the newer ones work better for Fibro symptoms. Perhaps you and you Doctor can work with the Insurance Co. to get Lexapro authorized.
