    Hi, this is my first post here, and it's going to be one of those long "does this sound like FM" kind of posts. (I know ya'll have read those many times before. Sorry for putting you through it once again.)

    Anyway, for the past two years, I've had a ton of weird symptoms going on. (See list below.) I've also gone from being a very active woman to barely being able to get out of bed in the morning and having to walk with a cane most of the time. I've been seeing an MS specialist because all of my symptoms are those of MS, but other than an abnormal evoked potential test which showed a defect in the CNS affecting my left leg, all of my other tests (MRIs, LP, etc.) have all been negative.

    I've been doing some research, and I learned that many of my symptoms are those of fibromyalgia too. However, I saw a rheumatologist at Vanderbuilt in Nashville over a year ago, and she said my problem was neurological and sent me back to the MS specialist, but I'm still wondering if it might be FM. Whatever it is, I need to find answers because my condition is deteriorating rapidly. If there is something to stop or slow this thing down, I need it ASAP! Right now, I take meds for the symptoms, but those aren't helping much anymore.

    My symptoms are as follows:

    * extreme fatigue
    * very painful muscle spasms which started in my legs, but have now spread to my arms, back, and neck
    * abnormal knee and ankle reflexes and a present Babinski reflex in my left foot
    * parasthesia, including "pins and needles sensations" in my hands and feet; burning in my arms,feet, legs, and right cheek and chin; various feelings like ants crawling on my skin or hairs brushing my skin; numbness in my feet when I'm walking
    * annoying buzzing sensations
    * stabbing nerve pains in my toes, feet, legs, hands, arms
    * pain in my ribs on the left side and my left collarbone that has been ongoing for months now
    * pain when I first wake up in the morning (I feel like I've been hit by a truck! It takes about an hour to get to feeling halfway functional after I get up and start moving about.)
    * tremors (One of my first symptoms. Sometimes the tremors are visible, sometimes they're internal.)
    * muscle twitches that often feel like someone is kicking me
    * TMJ syndrome (I've had it for over 30 years!)
    * slurred speech
    * numbness in my chin and shooting nerve pains and numbness in areas of my face
    * weakness in my arms and legs
    * heat sensitivity (causes vision blurring, weakness, and balance problems for several hours afterward)
    * balance problems
    * short-term memory problems
    * problems concentrating
    * vision problems (flashing lights, motion trails when I turn my head, double vision, decreased vision, etc.)

    So, do you think I might have FM instead of MS? Do you think I should request another consult with another rheumatologist? I just really need to find out what is going on. It's getting more and more difficult to function on a daily basis and I actually lost my job as an assistant professor at a community college because of these health issues.

    Thanks for your help and hugs to all,

    ...and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but *think* if you have an abnormal Babinski's reflex, you have something neurological. That isn't normal to Fibro that I know of.

    You need to have those flashing lights in your eyes checked by an optomitrist. You could have a torn retina.

    A lot of your symptoms sound like me but you should be diagnosed by a doctor one never knows when it could be MS or something else.

    Have you seen a doctor about this?

    Hi msbsgblue and JohnThreeSixteen,

    I've been seeing an MS specialist for the past year and a half. I've had every test you can think of - EMGs, NCS, evoked potentials, blood tests, MRIs, etc. The only thing that has come back abnormal is an evoked potential test on my left leg (which is the side that I have the present Babinski reflex on.)

    I'm just so frustrated with all of this! I've got tons of symptoms but no answers as to why. And I just keep getting sicker and sicker.

    Thanks again and hugs,

    Oh honey I am so sorry to hear that one more person may have this disease.

    There is a good doctors list on here for fibro look near top of page. Maybe you can find one in your area that specializes in FM.

    Do you have the tender points on your body like the sketches on fibro info shows. Look up "pressure points or tender points fibromyalgia on Google.

    You need to see someone who can test you for FM.

    dear Shashi,

    Some of your symptoms do sound like FM - but more of them sound neurological to me. You said that you have seen a rheumotologist and an MS specialist - but have you had a thorough exam with a neurologist? After 2 years - maybe some of these tests need to be repeated.

    Good luck and I hope you get the help you need.

    I'm feeling very TIRED and need to lay down a while, but I wanted you to know I read your post and would like to welcome you to our family.

    I'm sorry to hear of all the frustration you are dealing with. I hope you get some answers SOON! I think I would find a new MS specialist AND/OR see a neurologist and rheumatologist.

    I wish you the best!
