Zantac, the brand name for ranitidine, is a histamine-2 blocker that is more commonly associated with treating gastro-esophageal reflux disorder (GERD), rather than with allergies. Histamine blockers reduce the amount of acid in the stomach and alter the way histamines interact with the allergen.
