Spent half the morning looking through and carefully washing my hugh bag of green gold. Namely turnip greens.

Did those blackeyed peas the same way.

Fried a small mountain of hog jowl. I'm still burning candles to rid my house of that bacon smell before I eat myself into an early grave.

Topped if off with creamed potatoes and a pone of cornbread made with buttermilk. Had to have a gallon of tea to make it just right.

Can you guys tell I'm a southern cook? LOL

To tell the truth it sure taste good after all that Thanksgiving and Christmas food.

    Just plain down home good.

What was your new year food starter?

who has German ancestors, always has hardy peasant food on the first: potatoes, sausage, sourkraut and black-eyed peas.

This is supposed to bring good luck. I asked, "Does it work?"

"Well, no, not so's you'd notice."

Being a southern girl, we of course had hoppin" john. Problem was I must have been in a fibro fog because I over salted it. Ugh. First time I have messed it up in years but I think that salty or not, it still counts.LOL
