Truthfully - how many of you double or triple up on some of your meds when the pain gets really, really bad? Or - take a little extra of your sleep medicine to knock you out?

Of course my answer would be yes to both.

No, i do not double up or triple my meds up for pain control.

Since it's summer time, i get myself into a pool of water to relax muscles.
    Gentle movement in a pool.
Gentle stretches to ease muscle tension.

extra pills is not a thought for me.

I dont have a pool - do you think a bathtub would be just as good? Epson salt perhaps?

a bathtub with epsom salt would be good therapy and alot healthier than doubling or triple on medication doses.

Any type of water therapy is less impact on the body. A Rheumatologist will give you a written prescription for water therapy. Most insurances will cover costs for water Aerobics and other water therapy sessions.

Ask your doc about this if you are interested in water therapy.

    Wish you the Best

Doubling pain meds is very dangerous. For me it means my body has gotten used to them , so I cut back until I can tolerate the pain ,then restart the pain med slowly . Or I'd try something else. I take a low dose of vicodin (1/2 a pill as needed ) and 1 norco at bedtime as needed. I take baclofen for my muscle spasms 40 mgs a day . I've been given neurotin but decided that the nerve pain will just be tolerated until I can't stand it any long. Oh and a low dose asprin for HBP (dose nothing for pain) but its a necessary evil.
Doubling drugs = risk of addiction =liver & kidney troubles and possibly death.
A pain management specialist could help you through this slump. Pain is very difficult at time to get under control . I know it's hard I live with day pain and when everything is flaring up at the same time OMG its hard enough to knock the pain down to a level 8 or 7 .
Try to do a little detoxing when you level is at 5 or 6 . Evening warm bathes or a jacuzzi may help some. Add in some pool exercises (If a pool is available) .
I know that none of this "advice" is new to you it' s that upping the meds is very dangerous .
And we really care about you. =)

That sounds dangerous to me. Also, you might find if your doctor figures out you are using up your meds too quickly, that he or she might be reluctant to renew prescriptions in the future.

I have taken double pain med and/or sleep med from time to time Shari, over the past eight years since this all started. I don't do it often, but sometimes it is necessary. I have not become addicted or had ill effects. I do use a variety of the methods to deal with pain, as others have suggested - they are all part of my "tool box". Sometimes they are impractical - there are times that I couldn't get myself in a tub of water if my life depended on it. What I desperately need is rest and sleep. I am knowledgable about my meds and have a medical background. Many people are under medicated rather than over medicated. It's not a good thing to do if you're not well educated about medication, and if it becomes a common practice you will have problems. It really depends on the medication and the person - everyone is different. I don't ever need refills before they are due. That doesn't mean I don't have pain. I don't know about you, but my prescription pain meds don't help that much, they just take the edge off. I do take my sleep med every night and a muscle relaxant. Taking my sleep medication a couple of times a night on occasion, or once in a while 2 at once hasn't seemed to cause me to need more. I've been on the same sleep Rx for 7 years. There are sleepless nights anyway. I've tried a number of different meds as we all have. Everyone is different. My doctor is aware of what I do. I don't know what meds you're on, but I'd be wary of tripling any medication - that's not a good idea regardless of what you are taking. I'm sure a lot of people take an extra dose now and then.

and I usually have a few extra pills at the end of the month. I've been taking them for many years. It is what works for me. I'm 6'4" and 1 tablet every four hours, just isn't enough Norco for my 260lb frame. I double up almost daily when the pain starts to increase, otherwise it just doesn't work. The pain level is also quite variable from hour to hour. I take what I need when I need it, works for me.
