I have read where some of you take benzos at night for sleep..But was wondering if any of you take them regularly
    during the day..

I take xanax 3 to 4 times a day .25 have been for 5 years..When I have had a stressful day and if needed can take at night..Usually if I keep my stress level down during the day I don't take one at night..

This med does help me with fatigue, aches and anxiety ..I just don't like depending on a med the rest of my life..Of course, I hear that its addiction and not need is why I take them...Well, whatever guess I will be on them the reat of my life..I don't get out that much but without them I would probably be non functional..

Would love to hear others input ..

    God Bless,

I take a benzodiazapene (sp?) during the day and before bed. The doc just feels that it will reduce my pain-stress and that will give me a better feeling about myself.

I am so sorry you suffer with the panic/anxiety..Its horrible..

Yes, the xanax did help my panic and anxiety before the cfs it took it away completely..Since the cfs the anxiety/panic etc. is some how different..and I have the weird head feelings, off balance even with the xanax.

If I take it like I should, daily, yes it does take the panic, anxiety away...but I have to take 3 or 4 a day..

We are all different so I can't tell you if they will or will not help..Have you talked with your doctor about this?

I have tried many ADs and they seemed to make my anxiety worse..

I actually went on an out of town trip last Sat..only a one day trip but I was determinded to go no matter how many xanax I had to take..Well, I just took my daily dose of 4 and actaully made it and slept 7hrs that night, woke up feeling much better...Now, since they work don't know why I take, cut back and then take again..

My psych. told me xanax was one of the best panic meds there is..

Sorry, for rambling and wish I had an answer..So talk with your doc and it can't hurt to try..

    Keep me posted..Please,

I have been taking Xanax for less that a year. I take it day and night, but more at night. I plan on continuing to take it until this CFS lets up. If I could get my autonomic nervous system settled down and keep it that way, I think I would be better off.

I think I read that it clear your system quickly (4 hours?). I think there is an extended release version. I am going to ask my physician about it the next time I renew the prescription.

I was starting to have panic attacks and sever anexity the last few months. One night I woke up with a panic attack. At the time did know what it was. Now I do.

I would have severe anexity during the evening into the night. Id have anexity just thinking about the evening coming. I had clonopin. Didnt help much I could take 3-4 of 1 mg. and felt slight relif.

Long story short. My pain doc said it wasnt my meds and wanted me to see a pys. doc. for the anexity. I felt, how do all the sudden someone get this? Anyway saw the pys. doc. took me off of effoxer that Id been on for few months duh!!!! Feel so much better.

Slightly mad at my pain doc. for not listening to me and letting me suffer for weeks that felt like months.

I feel so terrible for people with this panic disorder. Ive had a taste of it and it sucks.

Still cant sleep though. Any suggestions on that?????????????????????????????

I think Xanax is an amazing drug and if it helps you, do what you need to do. I do know that you'd need to taper off very slowly if you ever decided to stop taking it. You sound as if you're being very rational about the doses so you know all about that.

I quarter my .5 mg. tablets of Klonopin and if I have anxiety or sensory overload, I will put a piece under my tongue. It helps almost immediately and does't make me tired. It just relaxes me.

I suffer from Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome (aka sensitive Autonomic Nervous System disorder). I have been taking a small dose of Xanax 0.25 for over 15 years and I will not stop. Actually my cardiologist is the one who gives it to me and it does help my body from having tacycardia attacks. I divide two pills daily into four halves. If I have a really bad day, I will take an extra half.

As far as the FM, I really can't say if it helps my pain, however, since I've been taking it so long, my pain could be much worse without it. I also suffer from anxiety and feel it helps me handle my daily outings.

If anyone is taking the extended release, please post about it.

I have found that the brand drug works better for me than the generic (just a matter of preference).

I had been prescribed Xanax for a long time along with an AD. I rarely took it and then only in the afternoon.

I can not take the AD's. I've tried all the newer types of them. The last one nearly killed me. Cymbalta made me suicidal and one made me what to kill others. It took me months to come off of it because I had to do it so slowly.

I started to take a 1 mg Xanax at night to help me go to sleep. I had been prescribed 3 a day for years. I just didn't take them. I wish I had or a few of them. I may not have become as ill.

Actually, now that I remember I was given Valium first because it helped with muscle spasms. I only took them when I had a migraine and did not take them at work. A doctor from Duke told me how dangerous Valium was. He said it stayed in your body for 3 days and changed during that time frame to 3 different drugs and one of them was on the market. That is when I had it changed to Xanax but it didn't not work as well when I had a migraine.

I then heard about Klonopin on this board and was prescribed it to take 1 to 2 .5 pills at night and 3 .5 pills during the day. I only took the pills at night and would occasionally take a Xanax or Klonopin if I felt very stressed with my family.

I was having problems with sensory overload and it got really bad. Everything bothered me. The only time I was comfortable was when I was alone and with low noise. I could barely stay on the computer.

I started a thread and Mikie and others helped a lot. I now do what Mikie does. I divide my Klonopin and decide how much I use by what is happening in my brain and around me. I still will use a Xanax if it is really bad and comes on suddenly. It works the fastest. Klonopin last longer.

I wish that I had used these medications a long time ago. I have let refill after refill expire because I didn't use it. My life and my family's life has changed for the better. I was not so edgy and just plain b*****. I could not handle movement around me, lights, smells, sounds, etc. I did not know what was wrong with me.

It has helped in all aspects of my illness and I will take it as long as my body needs it. This is completely necessary for me at this time.

I am happy that I had people on this board to advise me. They helped more than any of the specialist that I see.

I absolutely love Xanax, do NOT know how I would cope without it. I have anxiety and htis help tremendously. It also makes Imitrex more effective when I have a migraine. I used to have terrible period related migraines (in addition to every other kind!). My OB/GYN started me on .25 mg for the PMS and said to take it with my imitrex when I get a migraine. It REALLY makes the imitrex more effective.

I don't take it everyday, I have had to at times, just don't right now. It is important to make sure that you taper off of it if you take it daily, esp if several times daily. I currently get 50 of the .5mg tabs per month from my shrink.

I took Valium for a while a few years ago. The internist I was seeing had me taking it 2-3 times a day for depression and anxiety. Valium will actually CAUSE depression if you take it for long.

And the idiot doc didn't call in a refill after he had had me on it for 3 months. I woke up in the middle of the night clawing the back of my hands in anxiety. It was a full-blown panic attack. Scared my poor hubby to death! I still have scars 3 years later.

I have never had any withdrawal from xanax, though some people do. It is in hte body for a shorter time, so for me it causes fewer problems.

Temazepam is often used for sleep. My fav shrink says it does very little for anxiety, but is useful for insomnia. The brand name is reastoril.

    Hope this helps!
