How often do you get bad leg aches, hips thighs?

Lately I have had lots of achey legs , hips and my thighs.
My thighs feel like some one has slugged them really hard and they are so sore. Yet there is nothing there to indacate that I have hurt them.

With Mom in a rehab unit and my oldest daughter just having a baby i heva had to do more walking than ever. My legs are killing me, not when I am walking {they get really tired while moving} but when I am done with the day they will ache and throb till I am ready to cry. I am taking MScontin 100 mg's 3x a day {long acting} and MSIR 30 mg x4 a day for breakthru pain. so you would think that I would not have much pain.

My doctor knows that I am having leg aches and hip pain but he will NOT increase or add to my pain meds. I don't want him to increase the Mscontin or the MSIR. But maybe some thing less strong as a boost to the MSIR. I don't think he will go for it as he does not like my doseage as it is.

I wish that I still had my pain doctor, but he is not covered but my insurance . I would have to pay all of the vist at $100.00 a time and I don't have that kind of money. I have a $1,000 deductable that has to be paid before they will pay any thing and then it is about 50% of the visit. So there is no way I can pay him and get the deductable paid this year. And it will take me most of a year to get it paid.

That is why I changed doctors. I am seeing a rehumy for pain control. So far I have reactions to every antidepressant, steriod treatments that he has tried. So he does not know what else to do.

I am so sick of have reactions to meds that I am scared to try anything new for fear that I will have a bad reaction to it like I have done in the past. I had the same problem when I was being treated by my pain doc.

I just wondered if this is just me? That has all the leg pain and hip pain and sometimes deep into my groin muscles and this hurts deep into my bones. Some of the pain is so bad that it is not my muscles but my bones that are acheing and causeing me so much of this horriable pain.

I don't know who to talk to about this or even who to go and see. As I said my doctor now will in NO WAY prescribe me any thing for PAIN! as he feels that I am on enough strong pain meds that they should work better than I feel they do.

I have in the past had higher doses but it made me nervous and upsets my family as I am so fatiqued from every thing that I doze off in the evening and sometimes in the afternoon.

I am hard to wake up and it I have been woken up before my normal times I am so sleepy that my eye's don't want to stay open and this upsets my girls.

They dont' understand this pain any way. Just exercuse more MOM and lose some weight and your pain will ease up alot and you won't be so sleepy either. IF you lose the weight you won't need the strong pain pills you take now. So don't whine about it and exercise MORE. How can I walk more when I have end-stage osteo-arthritis in both knee's?

I hate feeling like this and I am so sick of aching legs hips and my thighs. Am at the end of the rope as I don't know what else to do for this pain.

IN pain and confused about how to make it go away or ease?

that is where most of my pain is, my calves and knees and hips, a lot in my ankles too...just aching. They feel like "growing pains", I used to think my legs were all bruised when I was a kid with growing pains...thats what I feel now...

HOw I wish that doctors here could do that. My family doc is not willing to prescribe any of my Narcotic pain meds. Only in an emergancy would he prescribe them for me and then it would be 5 pills that is all .

That is why I went to the rehumy as he is a specialist as well and knows far more about arthritis than a family doctor and my pain doctor thought he would be a good doctor for me. Maybe I will call the pain doctor I went to for 4 years and see if I can talk to him and see if he will let me just come in every few months instead of seeing me every month. Don't know if it will work but it sure would be nice.

Thanks for your support and caring

seem to ache to varying degrees most days, particularly when I get up in morning and at night. Sometimes it keeps me awake but I don't think its as bad as some people on this board. I have mentioned it to doctor on and off but dont get much response.

get really achy in the humid weather we are having at present. More so then when it's dry out. But I do go to the chiropractor once a month & try to do therapeutic massage at times. That does seem to help.

But other then that, I take arthritis strength tylenol & the heating pad, in between visits. I think I also have borderline rls.as I move my legs quite alot to relieve the achyness....

Everything in the lower half of my body aches, esp. when sitting. Walking I can do for a short period of time. I try to do all three thruout the day. ie; stand sit & walk.

What a bummer...Another addition to this dd..
Hope you can find some relief soon..Like you, how can we lose the weight if we can't exercise? I would love to lose about 60lbs. but not realistic w/all this going on...

I am so sorry you are having all this pain. I too suffer from the same as well as feet. If I can lie down about 4 times a day and put my legs against a wall or raised up with a pillow this helps. Some of it is related to osteoarthritis; but it never fails to amaze me how all encompassing this fibromyalgia malady is. Each time I read more on these boards also, another body part has been added to people's suffering from this. You are overwhelmed also with family issues. So, you just must keep going. "Pushing on Through" is not the mantra for fibromyalgia. We are supposed to pace ourselves. Sometimes life interfers/ I find that I need more sleep and must rest an adequate amount. My husband has osteoarthritis in both knees and spine, and they will only allow him a certain amount of narcotic pain relievers. He cannot take NSAIDs. Many docs keep wanting him to walk more but he only gets about 1/4 block....Most of the doctors who recommended this are about 35 and my husband is 64...So, it would be nice to hear from a doctor, "I understand how bad you are feeling, moving a little more has helped some and prevented atrophy of the muscles. Please let me know when you cannot do something I recommended, and we will work on an adjusted exercise plan for you." Only a very few say this. Much of the comments are along the nature of "you don't have it so bad." Well, you are my doctor, and I am here for MY pain, not someone else's...Would never say that, exactly, but feel like it. Have a rhemy appt. next month with someone who is supposed to be a fibromyalgia specialist...can't wait. Will write that up here. Hang in there and try and rest as much as humanly possible with your situation. Take care of yourself!!!

I am so sorry you're hurting so badly.
I know the way you feel. I too call this "aching to the bone" and it's not always just my legs, hips,or thighs, but my pelvic area too and often it involves my arms, wrist and hands.
    It's a terrible way to feeland I hope you find a way to get some relief. I have a few suggestions;
If you can ~ get into a bath tub with EPSOM SALT using water as hot as you can tolerate and soak for at least half an hour..it feels great on aching muscles and relieves aching for a few hours.
I also use...Now this may sound strange and is a little messy but it works! Rub CASTOR OIL - seriuosly Rub it into your muscles real good it woeks quite well!
I have tried a few OTC anaylgesic ointments, some really do help the aching.
I avoid any with camfor in it since I'm sensitive to odors and this stuff makes me feel ill. blaaaaaah, lol

I'm very sorry to read that your family is not supportive of you, they just don't understand and sadly for you this is no good...
I mean how can you relax when you know that you're upsetting your family! They should care a little more about your feelings. good luck!

    ((hugs))

That is some post! I have all the sympyoms mentiond by Rose.
Looking back when i was a kid I would complain to my mother about leg pain, she would say '" that it was growing pains" That wasn't normal pain. Rose have you ever tried trigger point myotherapy? I have some sucess with this.
It can be costly , That kinda hurts in its own way.
Ice ,heat epson salts also. Good luck to us all. God Bless.

Hi Rosemarie I know how you feel . But my knees are messed up because of a motorcycle wreck when I was 17 in 1981 . I ended up being slammed down on my knees and it caused my body to stop produceing the fluid around the knee joints . So it's been bone on bone for the past 26 years . The fibromyalgia just makes the pain worse at times ... I wish I could tell you of a medication or treatment that has helped me but nothing has ever helped . I have found that useing a walking stick whenever I have to walk at all helps . I don't know if this happens to others but every so often one or both of my knees will suddenly fold up on me , if not for my staff I'd be on the ground .I tried a regular cane but it only caused my back to start hurting worse . The staff I use is around a foot taller than I am and I've got the spot that's comfortable for me to hold wrapped in deer skin . My hands and wrists hurt all the time too so the deer skin is soft and helps .<img src="http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q7/ravensong777/SIGGYS/th_remoteImage-21.jpg" border="0"/>

DEAR ROSEMARIE, HON, I CANT TELL YOU HOW VERY VERY SORRY I FEEL RIGHT NOW. I SAT HERE AND LISTENED TO YOU ALMOST TELL MY STORY. EVEN AS FAR AS THE MEDS THAT YOU ARE ON , ETC, ETC. I HAVE THIS ALL OVER ME AS THE OTHER POST SAID EVEN THE ARMS , ELBOWS, WRISTS RIBS, KNEES AND ALL OF YOURS TOO. IT IS IF SOMEONE HAD BEATEN MY FLESH WITH A BALLBAT ALL OVER EXCEPT IT FEELS AS IF IT GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE BONE MARROW.I HAVE THE SAME RESULTS FROM THE MORPHINE AS YOU DO ALSO. IT SIMPLY WILL NOT KILL THE PAIN AND I AM ON MANY OTHER STRONG MEDS WITH IT. THEY JUST RAISED MINE TO 90 MGS. ABOUT A WEEK AGO AND I KEEP "FALLING OUT" TOO, JUST AS YOU DO. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AS YOU CANT WAKE UP AND YOU HAVE ALMOST NO FEELING THAT YOU ARE EVEN GOING TO SLEEP WHEN IT HAPPENS.I WISH THAT I COULD TELL YOU SOMETHING TO HELP YOU, FOR THEN , I COULD ALSO HELP MYSELF. AND I KNOW THERE ARE OTHERS OUT THERE JUST LIKE US, BUT THE MINUTE YOU MENTION THE MEDS, THEY BEGIN TO TELL YOU HOW DANGEROUS IT IS TO TAKE THEM. WELL, LET THEM TRY IT! THERE ARE VARYING DEGREES OF THIS DISEASE AND I DONT KNOW HOW MUCH FARTHER IT CAN GO , TRUTHFULLY. I ALREADY KNOW WHAT THE MEDS CAN DO. WE LOST OUR 31 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER TO THESE VERY SAME MEDS , FOR THE VERY SAME DISEASE, 2 YEARS AGO. BUT THERE IS NO WAY WE CAN LIVE WITHOUT RELIEF, AND NOW EVEN WHEN THE MEDS ARE UPPED (FOR WHATEVER REASON) WE CANT GET RELIEF A LOT OF THE TIME. AND YES, JUST AS I AM SURE YOU HAVE, I HAVE HEARD ALL OF IT ABOUT "NEEDING MORE ALL OF THE TIME AS YOUR BODY ADAPTS. BUT.... WHAT ARE WE TO DO??? SOME OF US JUST HAVE TO STAY IN THE PALM OF GODS HAND AND PRAY FOR HIM TO TAKE CARE OF US. THAT IS WHAT I DO. BUT ROSIE, I WILL BE PRAYING THAT SAME PRAYER FOR YOU 2 FROM NOW ON.
JUST TRY TO KEEP, KEEPING ON. LOVE AND PRAYERS AND MERCY FOR YOU, SKI-

I've mentioned this on another thread and can't find it. So, at the risk of sounding like a spammer, I use an emu oil product that works GREAT for breakthrough pain I experience in my back, hips, and thighs.

    www.newemu.com

I use maximum strength blue. And it doesn't smell like a pharmacy!

    I hope this helps.

AS I read all of the posts I felt like I was in a room full of friends. It was so touching to me how you all have been so supportive of me.

LIfe is so hectic here for me. I am still going everyday to the Rehab unit mom is in I try to stay for at least a hour but sitting is so painful and standing is much worse.

I have been spending some time with my new grandbaby as my daughter has had to have a root canal redone as it had abcessed again after 3 yrs. She is on antibiotics and she is nursing the baby so he has a tummy ache and is sleepy from her pain meds. But she can't go around in such bad pain that she is in tears. I will go watch the baby so she can sleep and it has helped her alot.

My other grandbabies were here all week end and the 2 yr old runs me ragged but I sure love him. His little sister is over 18 lbs at 7 months and is the sweetest baby and so cute and she loves her grandma.

I have to keep pushing my self or I would not get out of bed some days. I have better days not really good ones but better .

I want to tell you all how special you all and you have all given me some thing different to think about. Bless you all.

Not sure how I missed this post..but I have the same problem with achy legs, my thigh bone hurts to touch my hips and legs ache to the bone..

Especially if I have had to walk or go upstairs..They do not hurt at the time but later, especially at night the aches wake me up hurting so bad I can't sleep..

My thighs feel so tender that it hurts to sleep on my side, my legs aches are really bad especially from my thigh to my knees..

I have been Dx with CFS and FM, as far as any other pain I don't have any that can't be controlled with OTC meds..Nothing seems to help the leg pain..

My doc wanted me to try Lyrica but like you I have had so many reactions to meds especially AD's I am afraid to try it..

So guess this is a part of Fibro the affects the legs, who knows my doctor seems to think that is it..

    Take care,
    greatgran

Me, too. Mine is 24/7 since August 2006!!! Arms, too. Lyrica was extremely helpful, but kept me feeling "high" all day and zoned out. Plus, I gained 20 pounds in less than a year!

I'm trying to wean off the Lyrica now, but, of course, I have these horrible aches and pains to cope with.

Rosemarie, I used to get the achiest hips and knees -- it would drive me to distraction. Particularly the hips. Accupuncture did help me a lot, though I know some people don't have access to it. Also, I'm not sure how your body will react, but I started taking the herbal supplement Zyflammend (from New Chapter brand) 6 months ago and the hip and knee pain is literally gone (that's not to say there aren't plenty of other nasty items I wish I could patch up, but thats a different story). I know supplements don't work for some people, but pain meds never helped my hip pain and tended to make it worse.

Actually, I believe Columbia U did some research on Zyflammend in cancer patients and an impressive percentage of patients saw more improvement in pain and their overall cancer battle than the non-Zyflammend patients. Don't quote me on it, but I remember that...

Some of the main ingredients in Zyflammend are turmeric and ginger, and I started adding a TON of both to my cooking and food - it smells like an indian restaurant in our kitchen sometimes -- and my knee pain started to improve as well. Could be placebo effect, but who cares if it works!?

Maybe if your family sees you popping "naturals" (which I'm sure you've tried in the past as well) and trying other things besides pain pills they'll stop their bitching and whining about your managment of YOUR illness (no offense to them intended). Even if the Zyflammend doesn't work, you can look them right in the eye and say "Okay, buster, I've tried everything. Do YOU have anymore bright ideas?"

I hope you start to feel better!

to read your post. It seems like the majority of what I've read are people who have other issues with their backs, disks, etc, or the results of accidents, surgeries etc.
Me - well it started with leg aches and years later I still have these leg aches. I too feel like someone beat the crap out of my hips with baseball bat. I ache to the bone in my thighs, knees, shins and my thigh and calf muscles feel like someone is giving me those Indian Burns (remember as kids you used to get/give those on your forearms) deep deep inside. My legs are just plain ol' tired. Walking with cement blocks, through mud would be eaiser.
It takes a lot for any meds to help take the pain away. I take percocet and oxycontin and SOMETIMES I get relief - often I do not. It is very frustrating.
Wouldn't wish this on anyone, so forgive me when I say I'm glad to find others whose legs feel like mine.

I've had the same pain for what feels like years.. My primary care doc said she couldn't do anything about it.. Finally went to a pain management center and they did MRI's to see what was going on.. Turns out that I have a herniated disk in my neck and bone spurs in the lumbar area of my spine. Pain doc has no problem handing out pain meds for me now until they can do something about it. Please try to get your doc to do and MRI to at least rule it out..

Some days it is tolerable, other days it limits what I do.

Feet, Calves, thighs, buttocks, hips and inside the groin are on both side like a hamstring pull. Then add the lower back, mid back where the shoulder blades are, upper and lower arms. Recently my wrists are starting to really bother me.

Just seems to never end. Most days just achey and sort. Other days just downright painful and depending on what position I happen to move into, it just jolts me.

Still holding out for a mega win on lottery so I can retire at an early age......lol
