I have always assumed I had too much acid in my gut and that that was causing much of my discomfort and muscle pain. I never imagined that TOO LITTLE ACID in my gut was the REAL CAUSE of all the indigestion, bloating, gas, ulcers and muslce pain, etc. etc.!!!!
Now that I am taking HCL tablets with all my heavier meals that contain protien or carbs, I no longer feel the muscle pain and indigestion problems!!!!!

However, I am still tired and need to deal with the CFS thing. Any suggestions for that? Omega 3 oils I have been told hold the key here.

but as far as I know, there is no one cure for CFS. My son has it, and we've tried lots of different supplements, and progress is slow. He is on fish oil and I can't say that I notice any huge difference. But everyone is different in how they react to supplements, so it may help you. Good luck!

I wrote what I wrote because my fibromyalgia was caused by too little acid in my stomach and it has cured MY fibromyalgia pain, IBS and alleriges!!!!!

Everyones fibro pain is caused by a different set of circumstances and as I said mine was a lack of HCL in my stomach.

I wrote this for others who may have the same symptoms as mine.

the cause of FMS was still basically unknown. How do you know yours was from an HCL Acid deficiency? Just wondering.

I am glad you are doing better and that it has helped you.

    Hi Skinny,

Can you tell me where to get HCL and what dose to take ?

I have stomach problems too. I watch what I eat, but am finding that meat is still too hard to digest. And I have to have it for anemia.

    Thanks .. marcia

    Hi skinnymini,

What exactly were your stomach issues? Are you sure you had an ulcer, what were the symptoms.

I have had an ongoing issue with my stomach for several months now. I even was having terrible backaches but now think it may be due to something stomach related instead.(after hundreds of dollars in Xrays)
I was going to start probiotics but my stomach got so bad I can hardly tolerate anything right now. Even ice cream sends a terrible dull gnawing pain right through the middle of my stomach and back, so i think I may have an ulcer. I'm going to make a Drs appt for next week.

Anyway just really interested in your story so if you could elaborate for me cuz I might get some helpful info from you, I'd appreciate it.

Skinnymini, I would just like clarification as to what FMS symptoms you had that you no longer have. Specifically, are you saying that you no longer have pain in the tender points? Sounds like you were able to get rid of the IBS-type symptoms and that's great. But, when you press on your tender points, is the pain gone?

I've been taking Omega 3 Oils for over a year with no increase in energy. But, we are all different.

    Best of luck,

how did you find out that you didn't have enough stomach acid? Did you do a certain type of test, or did you just try the HCL tablets and felt better?

For the past 3 years I have suffered from IBS with diarrhea, stomach bloating, indigestion, etc. etc. I also had major muscle pain throughout my body especially at night so that I have not slept in many years (18 to be exact). I was and still am fatigued so that all I want to do is sit and watch TV. (I believe I still have the CFS issues to deal with.)

But my point is that so much of my discomfort was due to too little HCL which caused my digestion and muscle pain problems. You must understand that too little and too much acid have the SAME symptoms and antacids are NOT the answer for many. It may be the opposite of what you have thought all along and many doctors just are not aware of this. You need to try the HCL to rule out the too little acid theory. Doctors prescribe the antacids because they are the easy thing to prescribe and many/most are not aware that too little causes stomach burning and upper back pain as well.

I take 1 HCL tablet with my breakfast and 2 with my evening meal because I usually have meat then.
Carlson's HCL and Peptic Acid tablets can be found at any health food store.

If you try it... have a glass of H2O + 1/2 tsp. baking soda ready to neutralize your stomach in case you experience major burning. In my case, I experienced a warm sensation in my stomach are and then a little fizzing and gurgling. About 20 minutes later all my upper back muscles relaxed and I felt very relaxed allover...something I had not experienced in years. If it sounds very dramatic...IT WAS!!!!

Please don't suggest that I must not have had fibromyalgia because believe me I DID!!!!! I have been visiting this site for over two years and know that what I had was fibromyalgia and yes!!!! it can be cured!!! I belive every illness can be cured as long as no permanent damage to organs has been done!!!! You just need to keep reading and listening to your body...really listening to your body and not relying on the doctors to help you because my experience has told me that they know far less than we do about what is happening with our bodies. How can they know more as they have not experienced it themselves and they see you for about 15 minutes each visit.

I have suffered enough and I am just glad that slowly I am working through all my symptoms and am eliminating them one at a time.....Now I just need to work on the CFS fatigue.

If you are like I was you might think that stress and worrying cause more acid to be produced in the stomach..but it is the exact opposite....less acid is produced when you are stressed or worried as I am/was. Ibuprophen and any over the counter medicine and probably prescribed meds too, cause major irritation to the gut lining!! which only makes the matter worse!!!!... Finally all of this caused me to get erosive gastritis which was diagnosed through an endoscopy procedure.

My GI doctor assumed I had too much acid and prescribed PPI Protonix which worked for a short time and then began to cause all sorts or other problems....never did he suggest it may be too little acid. It wasn't until I saw a naturopath who suggested my problem may be the opposite and I tried the HCL that I began to feel better.

Since it is my bet that most of us take meds of some sort or another these meds are causing more problems than they are helping.

I have gone the whole route many of you have/are going ...MRIs, CAT scans, X-rays, multiple blood tests, stool and hormone tests. You name it I had the test done for it. They even told me they thought I had multiple sclerosis at one point!!! I have sought help from a rheumatologist, chiropracotor, sleep specialist, neurologist, hypnotherapist, alternative healer,
etc. etc. (anyone who would listen..) and my naturopath is the only one who has truly helped me HEAL!!!!

I feel I am on the road to recovery now!!!

Many of us have digestive problems such as relux, heartburn, etc. I totally agree that one's HCL levels can actually be too low, even with these symptoms. I have had some success using turmeric to help with these symptoms.

If you can get the reflux/heartburn under control it MAY be safe to try an experimental supplementation of HCL. But please be careful, if your stomach lining is thin you can easily burn a hole in it. It's important to build up that lining. It sounds like in this poster's case, her stomach lining was protected. I don't think anyone can question that digestive issues lead to major symptoms. Diane

I have taken supplements for the past 2 1/2 years...probably the same ones you are taking....magnesium + malic acid, probiotics, a good multi-vitamin, flaxseed oil and ground flaxseed. I have taken different things at different times but These are the ones I am taking now.

I eliminated all sugar 2 years ago and only use honey, real maple syrup or stevia to sweeten things. I reduced my dairy consumption significantly and only consume natural organic yogurt. (Dairy products are very difficult to digest and are not necessary contrary to popular belief or atleast what the dairy industry would like us to believe.)

I like to drink smoothies made with yogurt, fresh and frozen fruit, rice milk, ground flaxseed and stevia.
I also drink lots of pure water flavoured with organic flavors from the health food store.

In short...I have gradually cleaned up my act nutritionally, as I recognised early on that what I ate was causing me major pain and suffering and it was not worth it to me to eat all that "junk" while it "polluted my body". That is how I withdrew from the poor foods I used to eat.....I just thought differently about the junkfood and soon I did not want to put it in my body and then later I did not miss it.

My doc said there is no cure for FM. You have given me a glimmer of hope.

I really am happy for you. I am glad that you are feeling better.

I would appreciate it if you would answer the question I asked you earlier.

When you press on your Tender Points is your pain gone? I am not referring to all-over muscle pain. I am referring to the 18 Tender Points that doctors use to diagnose Fibromyalgia. Is the pain in those tender points gone?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

It sounds more like you have helped your IBS .That can cause pains all over but they are different then FM pain.

I always talk about we have layers of different kinds of pain .Congrats to you for finding something that helps but I do not think ,this is the answer we all are looking for.

We all need to be careful claiming cure before science has even figured out why we have this DD.I think it is Great to tell people what has worked for you but some people may think their FM is different from IBS just because their some people do not experience those problems with their gut.

I do not mean to insult you but your Doctor needs to explain what and how FM is different then IBS or Digestive problem.

I wish we could explain things so that all of us would agree on what it is but if we could ever do that maybe it would be easier to find the cure.

All muscle pain is not necessarily FM pain and all FM pain is not always muscle pain. Does this make sense to anyone else?

Thank you for letting us know about this, skinny....

I think maybe betaine is safer than HCL, isn't it? Seems to me Dr. Cheney or Bell have told us a thousand times we have too LITTLE acid, not too much.

Great discussion, many layers of opinion and questions, so thank you for letting us participate in it.

    There's always hope,
