I finally got into Dr. Hackshaw at Ohio State University!!! I am crying soooooooo hard but this time it is bcause of JOY not all pain. My PCP seemed a bit miffed when I said I WANT A REFERRAL TO D R. H A C K S H A W WWWWWWWWWWWWWW NOWWWWWWWWWW. She said it could take months. But I could call him. SO I DID!!! I called and he is seeing me April 17th!!! If I could move I would be doing a HAPPPPPPPY DANCE. I am sooooooooooooooo upset with my PCP. I asked for all of my records and she said we will fax what he needs. I WANT TO SEE THEM.

  2. GREAT! I do hope he helps you, keep us updated what he gives you and how he is. That is good for a specialist to get in that fast , believe me! Where did you hear of him?

I hope I didn't bend your wings with that hug! lol

I am so mad at my PCP ........ soooooooooo mad. She has jacked me around for almosst 7 years. I can't stop crying. What a cruel thing for a DR to do and then tell me to call him myself. I am looking for a new PCP.

You are entitled to a copy of your records. There is often a fee for copying the records.

Good luck with Dr. Hackshaw, I'm happy you are getting in to see him so soon.

I saw him many years ago. I really liked him, too. I just quit going because it was such a long drive for me to get to see him -- I had a hard time finding drivers to take me!

Just a note ..... make sure you drink a lot of water that morning so that you stay well hydrated, because he will take a ton of blood!!!! It seemed like they filled up dozens of vials of my blood!!!!! LOL

I'm a "hard stick" and it always helps me if I am well hydrated -- every time that they can't find a vein, the tech tells me it's because I'm dehydrated.

    Good luck on your visit!!

    Congratulations!!!

You can get a copy of your medical records anytime you want it is your right. There is usually a fee.

Ask for a copy of your medical records in writing -- the physician's office has 30 days to comply.

It's the law they have no choice but to comply and give you a copy.

Please be aware most states can charge up to 0.75 a page plus a handling fee this can run into some money at times. If the physician's office does not give you copies please let me know and I will tell you who to contact.

    Best wishes,

    Karen :)

And thanks for the heads up on the blood work ;-) and the cost for the medical records. Something tells me she has not done a very good job of documenting things.

    ((((((((((((( I am soooooooo happy )))))))))))))

ps ... my skeptical Dad is taking me since I am worried about driving myself ... should be interesting

She was really taken aback when I said DR HACKSHAW ... she tried to burst my bubble saying it could take months ... blah blah blah ... I can refer you to one of our Rheumy's. HA! Then she told me to call Dr. Hackshaw myself. I got in ... na naa naaaaaaaaa. I don't think she liked it that I did some research ;-)

I am too happy aren't I? Too bad my body isn't celebrating with me.

I am so happy for you and I wish you all the best at your appointment. It’s so hard to find a really good doctor out there so when we do, we want to jump for joy!!!

I’ve had problems with getting medical records in the past also. They probably don’t want use to see what they really write in them.

Good luck & keep us informed! I'm so happy for you!!!

My sister snuck a peek at her file while waiting for the DR ... and got caught and the nurse told she could not do that! In the file it had commented basically that she was a difficult patient (personality).

I'm so happy for you. It's so exciting to know that you will be seeing someone who specializes is this confusing illness.

I would make sure you get ALL of your records from her, not just what she thinks Dr hackshaw will need.
Then I would make copies for the doc and keep your own copies so that you have them.

Good luck. I am so looking forward to how your app. goes.

i asked for mine and they ...ha, ha, ha!!! (who's records are these??!?!? makes me crazy..this is MY health and MY body, etc etc..anyway) they said that *as a courtesy* they send my rec's for free to another doc...but i* have to pay something like 75 cents a page. which, since i have been going to someone who *could not** help me !!! for *years* would add up to ---a lot. sigh. i am frustrated with our "health care" system. anyway, aside from that (and yes, you *do* have a right to your records), good luck!! with the new doc.
