I just talked to my neuroglist about filling out my short term disability papers fr work since I've been off work since 8/7, she says I need to have my family doc fill them out. I told her my family doc needed some kind of DX from her and that she needed to fill out papers since I've been seeing the neuroglist all along since May 2002. Well the first ones I sent her a month ago she lost..so she says she'll look at em and see if she can fill them out. So I told her if ya cant fill em out send em back and I will find someone who can. she also told me that she dont have a dx for me if I have fm, wouldnt you thing she could figure something out all these times I was in her office. Then she had the nerve to say you dont have tremurs and the last time I saw you, you(me) were doing great. Yea right last time I was in her office I was crying in so much pain and so upset cause nobody was finding anything. I feel like I just wasted the last six months on a doc who dont know her own patients or anything else besides that. WOW Am I mad..I would like to have a paycheck before I lose my house and everything. Thanks for listening..I had to vent.

These docs, insurance company personnel, and SS could walk in our shoes for a month. They just don't get it.

Carla--I am so sorry to hear how you are being treated. I know just how you feel....and it SUX!!! I just wasted 5 months---and $22,000. (I am uninsured, and now in debt) with physicians who have become so calloused, and forgotten the oath they took when they began a service career. It is so...frustrating. I do not understand their attitudes which have prevailed in my case, too. I am rooting for you!

I know just how you feel. My personal belief is that these doctors don't want to take the time to do the paperwork that is needed for the darned insurance companies. I have been trying to get my LTD and SSD now since last December and so far nothing but denials. My PCP has put me on disability but that's not enough for them. They want "their" doctors to make a determination, their doctor who has never seen, talked to, nor examined me. I found out one of their "specialists" who reviewed my case was a kidney specialist, not rheumatologist. They deliberately do this in the hopes you will just give up, don't do it!! I hope you will have better success with a new doctor.

I have applied for disability retirement, among other things and last week I got a letter that they wanted an independent psychiatric evaluation. Interesting since that is by far a secondary diagnosis after three others that are truly disabling.

Anyway, yesterday I got a letter telling me I'm supposed to go to for this exam and he specializes in Forensic Psychiatry! I told a friend I hope I don't go in disabled and come out a convict! LOL

You have to laugh, or you'll cry!

I was also sent to a Forensic Psychiatrist by disability. I think when they are inbetween trials they have to scare up some money somehwere so they do disability evaluations. My doctor looked and acted like the lead in a horror movie! He said I had dysthymia and psychogenic rheumatism. I was FURIOUS about the psychogenic rheumatism part and so was my Rheumatologist. However, my lawyer was thrilled because he said it would help me win and it did! Later, I went to a psychologist on my own to see if she would feel the same and to get treatment if she did feel I was mentally ill, and did not tell her what the first doc had said. After 6 hrs. and many tests she told me I was one of the most well-adjusted people she'd ever met and didn't think I needed therapy. I then told her what the disability psychiatrist had said and she was dumbfounded. She said he must have believed me about the FMS and been trying to help me by dxing me with mental problems, because he knew I couldn't win on FMS alone. At that time nobody had ever won on FMS in the entire U.S...I was one of the first. So, what I am saying, is that this can work to your advantage. I went into the appt. trying to look and act depressed to help win my disability and sure enough he obliged with a dx of dysthymia. It is much easier to get disability for mental rather than physical things, but they will review you more often afterwards since they feel it should be treatable. The ironic thing is that now I really do have dysthymia, or maybe even clinical depression, though I didn't then! Maybe it's karma. This may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for your disability case.
