Is it a bad sign when you have to see independent doctor to help determine your case for SSI

Also if a case is denied is the last 5 months without benefits retro

Usually, when you are scheduled for a CE (Consultative Examination) with a doctor selected by the state (who assists SSA), it is because they have not received info from your doctors or they have not received complete information from your doctors.

As to a case being denied, when you are approved SSA provides a date when you are approved, so check your denial letter to see when the case is considered to be effectively denied. Also, you can call SSA and find out from them also. If they want back pay from you, they will get place a lien and get it eventually as they realize you will reapply for SSI.

You also may want to have an SSD attorney look at all of this to see if you should appeal the denial or reapply.
