for an hour and a half but the two people I talked to were very nice and they could tell i wasnt feeling well i moved in chair every min.,I had a migraine..but had everything already wrote out for them..I didn't have to walk stairs,if you walk to a side door there isnt any stairs thank god..They said i qualify for ssd for 561.00 a month, just depends on what docs say..she said it takes about 6 months so i applied for ssi also, she said i could get that faster, if approved..I've been working 20 hrs. a week to pay rent..They said a lot of people have to work despite disibilities until they are approved, but I cant do it any more am in a bad flare and have called off of work yes. and today..I need to quit but dont have anyone to help pay rent..Monday am going to apply for foodstamp and medicaid but dont know the rules about it in Ohio.

I guess I am in the same situation...per applied and waiting....no kids...but I was denied for both SSI (too many assets) and SSDI ("you could do unskilled labor part time") and also in the middle of divorcing the man who was emotionally abusing and controlling, as well as denying medical access all of which aggrivated the conditions and made things worse.

So here am I rotating between people I know, wanting to be on my own but don't qualify for help.

I will keep you in my prayers.

Rosie~~I don't know the rules in Ohio, but I sincerely hope you get approved soon and don't have to jump through all the hoops they usually put you through. I didn't know you could work until your got approved? Or can you work a certain amount of hours while waiting for approval? Though I certainly understand your wanting to have your own place and be on your own~~it is good that you have a girlfriend to move in with temporarily as an option. Keep us informed on how you are doing. I am 54, work 24 hours a week, and am finding it very difficult to keep going. However, I am my only financial support and don't know how I would live and pay bills without any income while waiting for disability to come through IF it ever to approved. So many on this Board have had such a hard time getting approved and end up waiting years. I hope you are an exception and receive all the help you need. Blessings, Carol...

BLUEBIRDER--Sorry you are going through such a difficult time, but be persistent, know your rights, and research avenues for assistance. Check out the United Way; call your State Department for a list of organizations that offer financial assistance. I want to apply for disability, but don't know how I would live and pay bills. I didn't think you could work and apply for disability at the same time...? Can you? I sure would like to know. I work 24 hours a week, but make good money as a therapist. And, I am afraid I would be denied because my job is not physicially demanding. However, sitting in that therapist chair 8 hours a day causes me a great deal of pain and is not good for my ailments. I am 54, have life-threatening asthma, severe allergies, FM/CFS since my teens, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, IBS, and advanced degenerative disc disease with so many multiple back problems that all the Specialists agree surgury would not help me. After my 3-day workweek, I am bedridden for 2 to 3 days with exhaustion, pain, and misery. However, the disability people I talked to told me that "pain" is not considered in their evaluation because "pain" can be controlled with medications. That what they look for is "totally inability to maintain a job of any kind". But, I feel that if I'm not able to quit working some time in the near future that my quality of life will be so poor I won't have much of a present much less a future. It seems that we are the people that fall through the cracks. I know how you feel, and I will pray that something good works out for you soon. It seems we work all our lives paying taxes that go to disability and SSI--and then when we need it--we are punished for having been able to work. I don't understand this. Let us know how you are doing and how your case is progressing. I am very interested. In the meantime, I will pray for good things to come your way. Blessings to you, Carol....
