I come to this site now and then depending on how I feel. One thing I've never seen addressed anywhere is the fact that more people than me must be without insurance and funds to afford a doctor. I am in the reconsideration phase of Social Security Disability claim but my biggest problem is PCP didn't care about my fibro/CFIDS and I could not afford specialist. I finally went to Dr Jon Dunn in Olympia, WA a few weeks ago but he is a Naturopath so will not really count with the "state."

I had hoped to get on Medicare so I could get some medical help but I am turning 62 this month and if they drag this out just another year I will be eligible the same time I would have whether or not I get disability.

Is there anyone else out there too poor to go to a doctor? Just wondering.

I go to a clinic that provides a sliding fee scale. Since I have no income. I am charged the minimal ammount, which is billed to me.

Does your state have a indigent care program? You can find out from a University Hospital. I pay the same co-pay as if I had insurance through this program. They also get some medicines free or cheaper through the pharmaceutical companies. I also receive $200 monthly from Aid to Needy and Disabled while I'm waiting for Disability Hearing. Good luck! Hope this helps. TJ

I DO NOT HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE.I HAVE BEEN OFF OF WORK FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS BECAUSE OF FIBROMYALGIA/CFS AMONGST MANY OTHERS.I SEE MY PSYCHIATRIST EVERY 3 MONTHS WHO GIVES ME SAMPLES AND MY ROOMATE/GIRLFRIEND HELPS ME OUT WITH THE BILL.I ALSO AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE PCP BECAUSE MINE OF 4 YEARS WHO DIAGNOSED ME WITH MONO 3 YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS 32 YEARS OLD. THEN RIGHT AFTER THAT I GOT FIBRO.SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO COME RIGHT OUT AND SAY IT BUT I KNEW SHE THOUGHT IT WAS ALL IN MY HEAD.WELL NEEDLESS TO SAY SHE IS NOT MY DR. ANYMORE !!!!! I RECENTLY HAD A DISSABILITY HEARING AND SHOULD FIND OUT SOON IF I GET IT OR NOT.I REALLY NEED MEDICAID SO I CAN GO SEE DR'S AND GET TREATMENT.GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS YOU !!!!!

Have you applied for Medicaid with Human Services? The same place where you apply for food stamps. This is what I did after I had to quit my job. Medicaid covered me until my Disability was approved. Actually, I still have Medicaid as well as Medicare.
