hi my name is becky and i live in p.e.i. and i am 14 years old. i was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue when i was about 10 years old. they r now thinking it is something else like maybe multiple sclerosis going with it. i have had 2 mri's, spinal tap, blood tests, x-rays, bone scans, and many other things done to me just to try to find out what is wrong.ive taken zoloft for pain and thats bout it, and i was wondering if someone could help me out by telling me something that i could get my doctor to look into to put me on for pain.it seems like if i get 18 hours of sleep it doesnt help me im still very weak and tired, last year in school i missed 121 and a half days of school cause i was always too tired to get out of bed and the year before i missed 75 days.im just so tired of al this im only young and i dont know what to do. im getting sent to toronto hospital for sick children soon to get checked over and probably have a 3rd mri.please someone give me some pointers to help me out...thank you

Hello bekka....I have CFS and have just had all the tests that you have had above. If you have had MRIs then, with the symptons you are having it is unlikely to be MS...I have just seen UK sM specialist who has reassured me that MS will stand out on an MRI by the time symptons are severe.
with CFs then you will be tired, but in the UK recent research has shown that you will get over this and it will eventually go away, and the recovery rate is better if you are young. Try not to worry, this will make your tiredness worse, and I do feel for you. I have a 13 year old daughter, and added to the CFS tiredness, for some reason teenagers do need a lot more sleep..Ask any parent how hard it is to get their teens out of bed in the morning..you are just very unlucky in having the CFS as well.i dont have any medical wands, but please do not give up..make sure you do get rest, and dont overdo it if you have a good day.
    Take care...thoughts are with you

What a bummer to be only 14 and going through so much! The lady who posted above had more medical wisdom than I do as she is going through similar illness and tests. I have only the FM to deal with so far. I am glad your family is doing what they can for you medically. I read about a person your age with your illness and no one would believe she was really sick for a long time. They just thought she was lazy and unmotivated. I hope, as the person above said, that your youth will work to your advantage and you will recover from this. Is there such a thing as tutors where you live? Would there be anyone who could come to your home and help you with school work? I hope that your doctor will be able to give you more help and I hope your trip to the childrens hospital gives you a good report.

Much good luck to you and God's blessings.

    in friendship, totteacher

Bless your heart. When I was suffering at 14 there wasn't even a ghost of a chance for a diagnosis - nobody even recognized that there was anything wrong with me (physically). I'm so glad you are getting help.

P.E.I is beautiful. Was there once.

I am so-o-o-o sorry! My daughter was 15 when she was diagnosed and like you she missed tons of school. Please have your mother check into Dr. St. Armand and try to find someone that will use the guai protocol. The guaifensin, chiropractor and massage therepist changed my daughter;s life - now, at almost 20 she will be starting her first year of college; something I was not sure she would ever be able to do. It was a tough road but made her a very strong, compassionate person. Hang in there sweetie, there is help for you. Good luck!!!
