I THINK my computer problems have finally been solved; I happened to run into the right bilingual person who knew who to talk to who could get what turned out to be my non-existing account figured out and turned on officially.... and that's the simple explanation.

What counts is the result tho... not only is my service is back 'on', he showed us how to adjust the pole if we needed to re-align it to be 'in line' with Cerro Burro mountain where 'the' tower is - I have my very own box there to send me my signal. I can only imagine how cluttered that tower is!

Libraries here in Mexico don't have computers (they're lucky to have much in the way of books! at least in anything but the big cities) but there are lots of "internet cafes"... I just hate Spanish keyboards LOL! plus I don't always want to drive to town.

At least now with Skype, I don't have to stand on the roof walking back and forth til I pick up a signal on my cellphone!

    all the best,
    Victoria

Hi Victoria! It's great to see you back again...I hope your signal box stays put. How complicated things are there, at least in the cyber world....lol...too bad English isn't accepted there like Spanish is here, huh?

Anyway, I hope you're enjoying the slower pace there. AND the warmer climate! This weather here is already killing me, and it's not even winter yet! I'd love to go somewhere warmer...yesterday would be good 'nough!

Tell us more about your life there, okay? We love hearing from you...take care.....Jole

Around here, every little library in every little bitty town & burg, has at least a small bank of computers!
They even teach people how to use them.
A lot of people, from little toddlers to very elder folks have learned to compute in a library.

I don't mean to laugh, but picturing you walking around on a roof, to talk on the cell phone, made me chuckle a little. :)
I hope it's a FLAT roof, anyway, so ya don't fall off!

(I'd love to walk around on my roof, but I'm in a 20 story high-rise, & I think they'd frown upon that activity. haha)

Glad to see you back! I have been mia myself and am just now getting back here myself. Just had lots of things going on but things have calmed down now.

I have skype too! I love it, I get to talk to my grandaughter Haley in Germany all the time and it is free! She got married and moved there about a month ago and is doing great.

So welcome back, a lot of the "ole gang" is gone but some are still around. I bet you are glad to have your internet back- What did you do without it??? Take care-Carla

Welcome back....it's great to see you posting again.

We have similar problems in Germany at least we did getting started on the internet. The language differences made it very difficult.

Hope to see more of your witty sense of humor soon.

    Hugs,

    Nancy

Actually the roof is peaked, tho not too much so I don't feel unsafe. My DH built a small deck on top at one end, but of course that's where the pole for the internet receiver went LOL... anyway, for cellphone reception, it's definitely at the wrong end.

I got teased a lot by people who remember the old 'Green Acres' TV series... Gabor on top of the telephone pole to tap into a line.... I guess I'm living a modern day version?!

And yes, the language barrier is definitely there, altho it is surprising how many speak quite good English. All the well educated doctors (specialists) do, and them some, in particular. But there are families here who have moved back from US cities because they feel safer raising their kids here... (their kids had a steep learing curve, most didn't learn to speak Spanish in US!)
