This is my first time and would like to know how everyone copes with FMS. I was diagnosed about a month ago. My doctor constantly offered anti-depressant every time I was a complaining of a pain. She basically thought it was all in my head. I'd like to know if everyone is feeling reallly, really sick all the time or do you get episodes of FMS? Everyday I get up there is always some kind of pain but sometimes I wake up and can't get myself out of bed, I feel exhaused and unable to get out bed. I'm 44 years old, I work 40+ a week and when I'm feeling okay I'll work overtime and when I can't I just my 8 hours a day and come and go to bed. Sometimes I hate the fact the day is beautiful, especially in the summer, and I have no energy to do anything. Does anyone ever feel like this? If you do, how do you cope with it?

    Thanks
    Esperanza

    Hi there Esperanza .....
Welcome to the forum..... We understand how you feel....
I get pain and fatigue in a come and go manner and I've been
suffering for 6 years before I finally got a diagnosis.
It's a good idea to get a referral to a rheumatologist as
they are more in touch with this illnes FMS.
Since I've been on Neurontin I've had a great relief from
the pain. Also, I take vitamins and supplements to help compensate for my illness. Also, I do find that Yoga helps with the sore muscles, tendons & joints.
Anyways keep coming here as there are many good people with
a good knowledge of this FMS & CFS to give you support.

Esperanza, I think most of us could write what you did. Some are worst, some are a little better. But all of us can relate to how you feel.

Again, welcome and hope we hear from you often.

Thanks to you all for welcoming me. I have already learned a lot from reading. I have been reading this message board for about 3 weeks. though I am married and my husband is good to me,a lot of the time he does not understand and tends to loose his patience with me which is difficult. Thank again and I will definetely continue writing.

    Esperanza :)

The best way to cope is to take it one day at a time-This board is great. Also,Like techno, neurontin has helped a lot.I think it targets nerve pain. Linda

Coping is an ongoing process for me. I have only been diagnosed a few months. I can relate to what you are saying about your lack of energy and pain.

I try to just take each day as it comes. I am trying to learn to listen to my body and pace myself. Thats very hard for me.

I know that when I exhaust myself physically, or if I am under alot of stress my pain is worse. I have sleep issues too, and if I can't sleep, it is worse. Try to get enough rest.

Maybe you need to shop around for another doctor who is more understanding and used to dealing with FMS.

I go to a Physiatrist. A Physiatrist is a Physical Medicine Specialist. He is also a Pain Management Specialist. He has been great.

I see from others posts that a lot go to rheumatologists.

I do try to take one day a time...but there are times that too many days clump together and of course that is when I feel the worse. Last night I was at work until about 9:15pm, I came home and for some reason my neck, shoulders, wrists and chest have been hurting a lot and try talking to my husband and all I got for him was "you are such a mess". That, of course, made me feel pretty crappy and all I could do was cry in silence. It actually hurt and feel that I shouldn't talk to him about my aches and pain and deal with it on my own. So, I'm actually kind of a glad that I discovered this message board because I think everyone here understands how frustrating it is to feel that way I feel day in and day out.

Thank you so much for being there for me.

    Hi Esperanza!

Low dose antidepressants can be very effective for pain relief.

Boy the people here are all over the place from housebound to working full time. Everyone is very nice and understanding. You will love it here!

Here are a few tips. Read the messageboard rules they explain alot! Click on a persons name to read about their life and experiences on the profile. Make the tile of your posts specific to get more responses. Do not get your feelings hurt if you post and get no answers. The board moves fast. Just bump it up and someone will respond!

Welcome and good luck on your journey! Lynn
