I went to a new doctor two weeks ago for a physical exam. I go back for the second part of the physical this week. This is just to talk to the doctor. The PA actually performed the physical. I'm a mid forties man. She checked my skin, breathing, blood pressure, male (breast exam) new to me, and prostate exam. That was basically it. Shouldn't she have checked corotid artery, reflexes, mouth, throat, ears, eyes (eye chart test)feet, penis, testicles for cancer, colorectal test for cancer, hernia check, and EKG? I'm going to have blood and urine tests at the next visit. But,I'm wondering if I'm expecting too much. Or, am I at an age where all of these areas aren't as crucial? What is your advice and experience with physicals?

Hi there, It would seem to me that she would have ck'ed your eyes, nose and throat. I would think reflexes also.I'm not sure about the rest as I'm not a man and I'm not married so I just don't know .It would'nt hurt to ask her why she did'nt ck on those other things.I sure would. Good luck with your next visit. let us know how that went. God Bless Danisue

I don't know about an EKG but, my husband goes to a nurse practioner instead of a doctor. She checks everthing each time. He had read that practioners are easier to talk to and give more complete exams. I started going to her too recently instead of my specialist. She's wonderful. Practioners have only a little less schooling than a dr. and able to write prescriptions. She also took the time to listen and is up to date on current medical issues and is knowledgable and open to alternative ideas for treatment. I would think those tests should have been done. In any case, I would definately ask when you return to ease your mind.
