Interstitial Cystitis and Elmiron anyone?

Discussion in 'Fibromyalgia Main Forum' started by fibrobutterfly, Sep 17, 2012.

  1. I can't seem to get on the IC board at all to ask. So does anyone hear have IC and ever take elmiron? My dr. only gave me a month supply? IS that all you need to take it a mo? I thought you took it all the time? Does it help and how quickly?

also how are the side effects?

And does IC and fibro go together?

Elmiron takes on average 3 to 6 months to work and usually needs to be taken long term. For some women it will rebuild the protective layer in the bladder. And, yes, IC is more common in people with FM and CFS.

I didn't have any side-effects, but you do need to get your liver checked every once in a while as Elmiron can be hard on the liver for some people.

Have you considered having a dilation done as for some of us it works almost like a cure? I had mine done 13 years ago and usually only have a flare every couple of years that just last a few weeks. Once I had this done I was able to stop using the Elmiron.
