Just watched this film, beautiful scenery, touching story and although I knew the end, it was still very sad. Poor boy.

One thing puzzled me, not important to the story but I'd like to know.

Why was Wayne, (Vince Vaughan)the owner of the silo place, arrested by the FBI - something about black boxes??

Neither me nor my husband understood.

The movie leaves it ambiguous, doesn't it?

    Here's what I found online:

Krakauer's book makes reference to Westerberg's "troubles with the FBI in which he was caught in a sting for building and selling 'black boxes' to illegally unscramble satellite-TV transmissions."

Sounds like a good, solid Midwestern crime. Bet Wayne didn't get a life sentence in Leavenworth for that one.
