Have any of you had an injection of iron?

I may be getting one, have read some negative things about getting an injection but the information was from an older source.

I may also be confusing the injection with IV infusion.

If anyone has had the above, I would appreciate any feedback.

I did have B12 shots years ago. I didn't feel any difference, but there were other things going on with my health at the time and at least my B12 level is normal.

It is my ferritin that is low and it is only slightly low. The doctor who mentioned this is a specialist not my regular doctor and he suggested I ask my PCP.

I might have misheard thinking he said injection instead of infusion. I have only heard about infusions but as I said that was a long time ago and things may have changed.

I was on iron plus the Vitamin C which I have been off of for a while. My IBS is acting up so am waiting on some test results on that before we make a decision about the iron.

I had 14 iron shots related to gyny problems in 2009. I learned that if the shots aren't given with a proper "Z track" technique they leave stains, called iron tattoos. My rear end on both sides has an area of dark purple and orange. It looks like a nasty bruise, like someone hit me with a baseball bat, then did it again on the other side.
I'm 55 and not wearing thongs anymore, so I wasn't too concerned, but I ended up with a more serious complication. About 6 months after the injections, both areas started to sink in. I now have a deformity of a 1-2" ditch on both buttocks where the stains are, and atrophy of my glutes. I now use a cane, and my Dr doesn't want to discuss it, saying it's one of those unforseeable problems. Maybe I'm a rarity, but it seems odd it happened on both sides.
If I had to do it over again and pills weren't enough, I would ask for IV iron. I wouldn't go the intramuscular route.

In case Gapsych missed recent post. I couldn't figure out a way to message, and want to be sure he/she has the info before taking IM injections
