I see so much written about thryoid problems and FMS? Does anyone else see this as a common factor or is this just coincidence?? You know I feel better just being able to talk you all. Bless all who are suffering.

I can not quote you statistics but Thyroid Disease sure seems common on this board many of us have it one form or another.

I have Hypothyroidism due to Hashimoto's Thyroiditis an autoimmune thyroid disease with a multi-nodular goiter. Being Hypo causes my blood pressure to go up along with cholesterol and triglycerides and such so added salt is a big no, no for me.

Unfortunately a lot of Hypothyroid symptoms and FMS symptoms are the same and it can be very confusing when one is having a flare or just needs an increase in thyroid medication.

If you do a search here you will find some great discussions we have had on this very subject and I am sure others will be along to give you some more information.

    Happy 4th of July (I almost forgot...LOL),

I had Hashimoto's leading to hypothyroid BEFORE a surgeon refered me to a rheumy who diagnosed the fibro ..
I have a large diffused goiter which I wanted OUT so badly because I had the "lump in the throat sensation" all the time .. it was maddening .. I demanded to see a surgeon because of that horrible feeling ..

I was presently seeing a totally inaffective GP and internist .. but the surgeon was wonderful .. even though it bothered me (then) that he would not touch the thyroid/goiter .. too much of a mess .. he lead me to the rheumy and I took charge and was able to find another GP who has been my sanity saver and I am so grateful to her !

So it is a matter of the "egg before the chicken or vice versa" .. the rheumy said I must have had the fibro for some time .. so did it cause the thyroid to go nuts ? I don't know .. I'm on Synthroid for life now though ..

Next odd occurance was being sent to a specialist for a breathing problem and she found my mitral valve prolapse .. another very common "tag along" condition with fibro ..

It almost makes you scared to go to another specialist .. what next ! .. but I need to keep an eye on things and keep everything under as much control as possible .. I also have tinnittus in my right ear .. annoying but not fatal .. haha .. you have to have a sense of humor or you would totally loose it I find.

No one ... and I mean NO ONE .. has fibromyalgia wihtout other problems or conditions .. that is "THE" common thread with us all.

Good Luck and hang in there !
    Joy : )
