All my joints started grinding, crackling, popping, Etc. at the onset of fibro. symptoms. Shoulders seem to dislocate at times. This is not like the little pops everyone gets, its pretty severe and painful, shoulders and shoulder blades being the worst. I have read these are symptoms of arthritis. I am 35 years old now, and this has been going on for second year. The Dr. has only done one xray 9 months ago of neck that showed advanced degenerative disks in neck. Shouldnt they xray other joints? I wonder if it cuz I am on HMO plan that these are not ordered to check for causes for this, cuz it is not normal at all. Does anyone else with Fibromyalgia have this also? I have many fibro. symptoms on top of this, but havent seen this as a symptoms of fibro. Also, symptoms of arthritis like I have do not include the fibro. symptoms, Is it possible I have more than one problem? REALY NEED SOME INPUT FROM OTHERS, should I ask Dr. to xray some more joints? I am concerned that the Dr. is missin something, or doesnt do much cuz of insurance. My insurance changes to PPO plan with another co. in Jan. and I wonder if this will change how treated.
PLEASE ANYONE WHO ALSO HAS THIS RESPOND, this is one symptoms I feel really alone about. Thanks very much....

Your symptoms are indeed those experienced by those of us with arthritis.

Arthritis and Fibromyalgia are not the same, and one does not "cause" the other, but they often appear in the same body.

You should approach this subject with your physician and request a specific diagnosis. There is very little doubt in my mind that you will be diagnosed with "Degenerative Osteoarthritis".

The "grinding" you describe is a terrible sensation. I had it in my neck for years until everything just sort of wore away to nothing and there's nothing left to "grind". That isn't a pretty thought, is it?

I wish for you a diagnosis which will go a long way in helping you deal with these symptoms. Often, there are things we can't "fix" but just knowing the names of the things we have does help a lot when we are attempting to tolerate them.

    Sincerely,

I to have had a hard time to get the right thing identified, it has only taken my doctors about 10 years too finally send to an Arthritis Specialist in Kansas City. It was then that I was told that I had Fibromylia. This explains all the problems with my stomach and the loss of strength. But it didn't explain the cracking and hellish pain of when my hands or back would crack just like you talked about. That hurt so bad that you'd get tears in your eyes. I'm 52 year old male Power Lineman and this stuff has shut me down. I've been laid off work for almost two months with this and unless the $150 dollars of medicine that this Kansas City doctor has me starts to stop the pain and gets me back some of the strength back I don't know what I’ll do. I can't climb poles or handle the weight the tools any longer, and I sure haven't been working safely, should have seen the 12,000 volt fire I built in Kansas month before last. I just learned of this web page a couple days ago so I need to catch up with the rest of you. Has anyone ever filed and gotten disabilities form the Social Security Department for this Fibromylia. I need to start all over career wise and I don’t have the money to support my family and go to school, and I sure couldn’t do it on minimum wage either.

Someone here once called it "snap crackle pop" rice crispies. Yes, just about every joint in my body cracks/creaks or pops. My doctor is not concerned - says there are no guarantees after 35! There are many of us with FM that have the cracking and painful joints. You should probably mention this to yr doctor but know that most of us suffer from joint pain/creaks.

    Have a great weekend,

I am now 48 and I have had Fibromyalgia for seven years.Mine all began with problem in my neck and joints. The areas with the most problems are the neck and shoulders. My neck cracks and pops on a daily basis and my shoulders joints hurt so bad I can't sleep.I get a crunching in my head that sounds like rice crispies also. When my muscles in my neck tighten I get a bad pain in the bridge of my nose and in my eyes.My throat also tightens up and if I grab the front of my neck and pull on the skin I also get cracking in my neck. When my muscels begin to loosen upr a little is when all the hard and loud cracking begins.I also have cracking and popping in my
chest. My hip joints don't crack bad but they get very painfull, along with my hands and fingers. If I could get rid of the pain in my joints I could sleep better and feel alot better also. I have had xrays and the doctors think I am nuts, they tell me I just have to live with the pain. I would not wish this on anyone but I do wish they could have a 48 hour period feeling the way we do.Best wishes and hang in there.
