There were two Catholic boys, Timothy Murphy and Antonio Secola, whose lives parallelled each other in amazing ways.

In the same year Timothy was born in Ireland, Antonio was born in Italy. Faithfully they attended Parochial School from kindergarten through their senior year in high school. They took their vows to enter the priesthood early in college, and upon graduation, became priests.

Their careers had come to amaze the world, but it was generally acknowledged that Antonio Secola was just a cut above Timothy Murphy in all respects. Their rise through the ranks of Bishop, Archbishop and finally Cardinal was swift to say the least, and the Catholic world knew that when the present Pope died, it would be one of the two who would become the Next Pope.

In time the Pope did die, and the College of Cardinals went to work. In less time than anyone had expected, white smoke rose from the chimney and the world waited to see whom they had chosen.

The entire world was surprised to learn that Timothy Murphy had been elected Pope!

Antonio Secola was beyond surprise. He was devastated, because even with all of Timothy's gifts, Antonio knew he was the better qualified. He just had to know why. So Antonio Secola asked for a private session with them, which they granted.

He candidly asked, 'Why Timothy over me?'

After a long shocked silence at his nerve, an old Cardinal took pity on the bewildered pious man and rose to reply:

"Yes my son, we knew you were the better of the two, but we just could not bear the thought of the leader of the Roman Catholic Church being called 'Pope Secola'."

    --No groaning! --
You KNOW you're going to pass it on to Catholic and non-Catholic friends alike-- I hope -- I got it from a Catholic friend actually!

thank you for spreading laughter. It is really the best medicine. I read your profile and the picture on fridge is cute. Obviously from that and your post you try to get through the difficult times with humor. Me too. I know you must have but I have to say that I do the nasal rinse every day to keep the sinuses under control. You can do the "Neti cup" or an ear syringe. Do you ever go to the chat room? It might be easier for me to explain how to use it there in a room together. But if you will respond to this same post I will check and if you want the details we will work something out. It is just with 1 cup water and 1/4 t. salt and 1/8 t. baking soda. It helps me. You have your hands full with MIL and I am so sorry to hear. It is heartbreaking and must be extremely exhausting. I don't how you are able to cope. My mother has dementia also and is leaving me at a faster rate now. Hugs, Penny

Thanks and yes, as you guessed, I've tried that. I even bought Dr. --'s (sorry brain fog, was it Grossan?) ultrasonic toothbrush attachment and tried that intra-nasally to no avail. I could write a book about what I've tried and has failed.

The only thing that worked for more than a month was making MSM into a nasal spray... was great for 4 months or so then quit.

But I've tried every other kind of nasal spray from capsaicin, xylitol, all RX ones, neti pot, steaming, etc., etc., I don't think I can remember them all unless somebody asks spedifically.

I just had 2 root canals however on the side that hurts the most often as I've realized that I cannot chew on that side. The second one, done 2 weeks ago, is still tender and I still cannot chew... not pulsing, but I think I'm going to call my dentist and see what he thinks. And again, of course, the xrays showed no obvious infection... altho I was told that something-or-other looked like it was thickening, which would be indicative of early abcess.

so I am playing a wait-and-see game right now, hoping it clears up at least 50% of my sinus problems. It's all I ask, LOL...

and yes, humor is the only thing that keeps me 'up'!

    all the best,
