has anyone taken this drug? Mine is the extended kind. I take it in the morning and at bed time, or every 12hrs. I am on 10 mgs. I took my first dose last night. I don't know what to think yet. Haven't had any side effects.

    Hi Raz,

Yes I took that but it did'nt agree with me I was ill and vomiting for three days after I took it. However for some reason most medications make me very ill.

Good luck I really hope it works for you. Take care, Tammy.

    Hi Razorqueen~

I'm on the Oxycontin 10 mgs time release form that you also take every 12 hrs. Is that the same thing as mine or is it really Morphine? I think it might be different because I also have trouble with tummy aches if I am given any Morphine. I know I've had it in the hospital settings, but I'm not sure if thats the same as the Oxycontin 10 mgs. Having a bit of a brain freeze I think...Hehehehe..

I know the Oxycontin work very well for me and I have no side effects, but I know I do need to take breakthrough pain meds sometimes during the day. My Dr. had given me the 20 mgs, but I thought they were too strong if I had to go out and drive and go to work, so I had him lower it to the 10mgs.

Good luck though, but it might take about 3 days to get the full effect of the drug, as I've been told that is how long it takes to actually work properly and have a steady pain relief.

I hope you don't have any problems with it and it works great, so you can have the pain relief you need!!

I am on Kadian CR, which is controlled release morphine. I take 60mg morning and 60mg evening. Is this what your are taking?
It does help. I thought it didn't til I stopped it.
I also take 10mg percocet or endocet for breakthru pain. I am not pain free, but much of the time I can deal with it.
    (I tried Duragesic/Fentanyl patches, nope.)

I hope the Morphine works well for you. It's an old tried and true med. It worked well for me but my doc and I decided to use the fast acting instead of the time release form to help me better control the dose. Let us know how it works out.

my rhumey will not prescribe anything stronger than Lortab. He say's he doesn't want the DEA knocking down his door. He got very defensive when my husband asked about something stronger for my "bad" day's.

My rhumey said I'll just have to have "some bad" day's. That ticked me off a bit, but I didn't say anything.

Pain control is so subjecitve, you are at the doctor's mercy, and how they feel personally about narcotic's.

This makes no sense to me.

    best wishes,

never heard of it before. I am in Canadian, and it a small city that I live in. The doctor who prescribed it is a GP as far as I know, who is the main one in our town who prescribes these strong meds. My own family dr does not.

At least I haven't had any bad side effects.

    Hi guys!

I haven't heard of Morphine Sulfate, I do have a prescription drug book and will try to look it up.

I was also going to tell you guys to be careful with Morphine and Oxycontin. My sister was prescribed Oxycontin less than two weeks before she died. Do I think it had anything to do with her death? I really don't know, but she had been really sick with bronchitsis (spelling, sorry!!)also. Plus, she was on blood pressure meds. She was only 46 years old and had suffered with fibro for about 2 years. I just want everyone to be careful!!

I was on MS Contin for nine months. Pain was controlled but the side effects were too much for me. Rash and sores, vomiting,no appetite, and after a few months my body was asking for a higher doses.

Several hours before the next pill was due, I felt I needed it and was very anxious - actually symptoms of withdrawal. I had vowed when I started this drug I would never increase the dose.

I had lost my appetite so lost alot of weight - over 50 lbs. That is not a good way to lose weight. I was sick.

Finally I found a doctor who gave me Subutex so I could get off MS Contin without withdrawals. I was so afraid.

Subutex is also a pain reliever so I have stayed on it as maintenance for over a year now. Very few flares and never as before. Subutex is dissolved under your tongue. I take 16 mg day. It works.

The only other drug I take is Tylenol Gel Caps.

. In australia it's known as Kadian. I have only been on it for 2 weeks, 10 mgs at night and 10 in the morning if needed. I have had no side effects from it thank goodness and at this stage have only had to take it twice in the morning but I agree with one of the other members, you do need something for breakthrough pain. I'm seeing my Dr next week to either get something for the breakthrough pain or increase the Kadian.
    Good luck

My Morphine was prescribed by a pain specialist. I've found rheumies are reluctant to prescribe opiods.

I take immediate release morphine 10mg as needed. I take one everynight with me sleeping pill and sometimes during the day if my pain gets out of control.

It certainly doesn't do it all though. I've started experiencing nerve pain in my legs and feet. My rheumy wants to put my on Lyrica.

I think I'm going to ask my family GP to refer me to a pain clinic. I need to know what I can take for what pain.

i took AVINZA (morphine CR) and ended up in hospital with gastroenteritis... even though it did relieve the pain, i was in a stupor the entire time, and it stopped all bodily functions!!!! leading to a bacterial infection in my colon/intestine, leading to vomiting, diarrhea and unbelievable pain!!! i ended up in hospital for 12 hours, CAT scan showed gastroenteritis.. be careful using it.. it is not a fun thing to go through... although the four days i used it, i had no pain, no thought processes and was unable to function at all...

my rheumatologist laughed at me, said that since i had so much pain, picking up 10000 lbs a day, that a new mother did the same thing, hell i am a 52 year old OLD lady... and she did nothing but laugh, wouldn't even do a blood test..

I see your on the immediate release form of 10 mgs, and you take something for sleep? May I ask what you take for sleep, as I'm on the oxycontin time release 10mgs and I'm afraid to take any type of sleep med with it at night time, even though the Dr's said it was fine to take the Xanax with it before bedtime. I would greatly appreciate if you could answer this if you have the chance?/!!

    Thank you so much.

on Morphine Sufate. I had taken it before , but there was a mess-up with my script and I had to go off cold turkey . Now I know what addicts go through . My doctor has said it is time to try it again . My pain level has shot up dramatically ( I just lost my disability case - I wonder why my pain went up ?)

Anyway , at this point , I told her that I will try anything to get rid of the pain . I hope it works FAST.

I didn't have any side effects , just DO NOT GO OFF IT COLD TURKEY !!!

I posted on this one before, I have an acquaintance that reps for it. supposed to be very good and not cause the 'bolus' that comes with a lot of other similar drugs. got my eye on this one for if/when I have to step up pain meds. hydrocodone, bah, humbug. ain't working. then again I fell like a lyrica ad today, poster child for fibro. nothing wants to stop hurting, the fog is strong within me and I am weak as can be :p

I am taking Mscontin 100 mg 3 x daily and MSIR 30 mg 4x daily. I have not had any problems with this medication other than the usual constapation. But I use Mirlax for that.
I was on a higher dosage at one time and I found that I didn't need as much as I had been prescribed. I could go up to 20+ hours with out any problems so I had my doctor lower the dosage for me and may be in another month I will have him reduce it again to just the 2 pills a day. I am still nervous that I will hurt and need the 3 rd pill in the day.

I have not had any bad side effects from this medication , not even when I slowed down on my own.
I don't recommend that you do this. But find the doseage that helps your pain and stay with it. I take miralx for the one side effect I have. Constipation and I take Miralax for it .

Take it slowly and relax I talk to my rehumy monthly to make sure he knows how my meds are effecting me and this has helped me alot.
