Lawsuit against Xyrem?

I hope I am spelling the medication correctly. It is one I have seen mentioned here quite a bit for sleep. Anyway,I was having one of those hopelessly sleepless nights last night and a commercial came on mentioning this med.

It went on to tell that people have suffered respiratory arrest, coma and even death and was encouraging people that if they, or anyone they know, is taking this med, to contact the number on the screen. Evidently there is a class action suit going on involving this med. Has anyone else seen this commercial or did I just dream it when I thought I was awake???????

Bumping this..and am beginning to wonder if maybe the sleep deprivation had me wishing I actually had some of this stuff. But not if it's dangerous.....anyone else hear of this class action suit besides me?

I think I've seen the commercials for Zyprexa, but I haven't seen any for Xyrem. Xyrem hasn't been prescribed enough for the bottom-feeding ambulance chasers to get a class action lawsuit going, at least not one that would provide a good enough casino-like payout.

Maybe they think they can reopen the old wounds from street and OTC recreational GHB abuse and use that to convince people that the drug is still dangerous even under controlled conditions.

Big Bump. I am planning on starting Xyrem in two weeks.

Thank you for the bumps. You know, I have not seen that commercial again and since no one else has replied, I am hopeful that I was just not paying attention and it was another medication.

Which, as Martha says, "is a GOOD thing," because the Xyrem has seemed to be a lifesaver for soooo many people on this board who have such difficuly sleeping. That is what upset me so terribly. My first reaction was "oh no, two steps forward and four steps back again for fibro folks!"

So hopefully I was mistaken. I would much rather be mistaken and admit to it than for people to have finally found a med which is working well and giving them back some much needed rest than to be right! No news must be good news!

everything else for sleep, Xyrem remains a hope of mine, so I am also concerned about possible lawsuit. Googling it (put in Xyrem lawsuit) I get a site titled Drug Law and the following tantalizing tidbit.

"Patient enrollment in Xyrem clinical trial for fibromyalgia initiated"...(I'm GUESSING lawsuit?)

Don't know the rest of the story because the web site turned out to be for subscribers only. Maybe someone else could figure out how to get to article.

Because of some of the ADVERSE EFFECTS I've heard from people on this board and others, I guess it shouldn't be surprising that sooner or later...

That would be really unfortunate, because I think it's understood that with any medication we take chances; we just hope the possible alleviation will be worth the risk.

Well, Sleepy, maybe I am just too foggy here to try and rationalize what you read. But it just sounds to me like what was written was that Xyrem has begun to be rx'd to fibro patients on a trial basis. I will try and get back and read this again tomorrow and see if my mind is any clearer after a few hours sleep. (Oh yes, the never ending quest for some decent rest never ends, does it?)

Oh gosh, I see now what you were trying to say. That a patient enrolled in the study has intiated...and then you couldn't read anymore without subscribing. Duhhhhh, so sorry, I really need to TRY to get a little sleep. Try being the key word here.

That should help some folks feel better about taking xyrem. I was totally prepared to take it if my "sleep doctor" thought it the best course of action for me.

It wasn't ... lunesta is my rx .... but I'm glad for all the individuals on xyrem. Our illnesses don't do well with stress. By letting everyone know of your experiences and information, they should be able to breath easier concerning xyrem

    Hope you are doing well,

I am the person who began the thread regarding the Xrem and I want to apologize if my mistake caused anyone feelings of despair or hopelessness. I would never intentionally do that.

I was just upset and alarmed and obviously, (and thankfully) must have gotten the med confused with another. But again, I apologize if I caused anyone unnecessary worry or upset. You are right in that none of us need a single ounce of unnecessary stress added on. I am so sorry!

It works great for pain and for sleep for me. Unless both the Xyrem pharmacy folks and my doctor have lied to me, there have been NO deaths from Xyrem when taken as prescribed by a physician.

I just saw your post. You don't have a thing to apologize for. You had a legitimate question / concern on whether xyrem had a class action law suit against it.

Now that we know that it doesn't , all of our members who take xyrem can relax.

That was all I wanted to point out , not that you scared anyone over xyrem.

You're sweet to mention an apology, but you just didn't do a thing to apologize for!!

I hope you have a good night ....

Normally I am not an alarmist. I should have checked out my worries and facts before I posted though. I will learn..I hope, LOL!

My doctor tells me that there have been no deaths of Xyrem patients (from Xyrem). (Please note that I said patients. Folks who buy this on the street are not included.)

I take Xyrem and love it! I take about half of what is recommended and it works well for me.

My doctor's Xyrem rep told her it is one of the safest of all the drugs we take. You can mix it with other sleep meds (of course, with a doctor's approval) without harm.
