    Link between endometriosis and fms

I read a few months ago in the L.A. Times and then on the internet that the two are linked. Apparently in a study from London if you have endometriosis chances are you will develop down the road: FMS, Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis, or multiple sclerosis. When I read that, I decided if I had to pick one, give me the FMS.

There is a link~ I have both FM and Endo. The fibro came first 11 yrs ago and the Endo.about 6 yrs now.
Both are nasty....or they are nasty to me anyway!! My endo is persistant!!I've had a few surgerys to remove growths and it comes right back within 6 months! Causes me alot of BAD pms symptoms, cramps, low back pain, pain with bowel movements, ovary pain etc... I lose a week or more a month, where i'm totally unable to do a thing!!thats with the endo. And then with the FM,well....ya lose alot of time!! 3-4 days a week I'm shot to hell from Fibro pain, headaches fog,etc..... Take care :)

    Hi sunflowergirl,

From what I've read on this site many of us have had both. I had suffered with a severe case of endo for years , first went undiagnosed and after many surgeries finally found a Dr. that helped me and gave birth to my daughter. Shortly after the endo returned and I had to have a hysterectomy. I could not live like that anymore since I only had 1 good week a month.
Last November I was diagnosed with fibro but I now know I have had it for four years and it has steadily worsened to were I am now disabled.

Between endometriosis and this DD.......and there is also a link between endometriosis and pesticides.

Endometriosis is estrogen dependant.... Pesticides are estrogen mimickers. There is compelling new studies on dioxins (pesticides) and endometriosis.

We have been tested for everything under the sun.. EXCEPT environmental toxins....A lot of tests on the environment esp water and fish show toxic levels of dioxins..... will anyone ever put 2 and 2 together?.......dojomo

I was in the same boat as some of you. Had endo for several years. Had a hysterectomy in 95 and was just diagonosed with fibro this year. Although, I think I had the fibro first. Have been suffering with symptoms since i was a teen.

I haven't heard or read anything about the link between Fibro and Endometriosis!! I had to have a total hysterectomy years ago due to a chronic and serious case of endo... and I was diagnosed with FM, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Osteoporosis about 2 1/2 years ago. Before all that I had the Shingles a long time ago too and I've always thought there was a link between shingles & Fm since they are both similar painwise. I will definately be researching these links and I thank you for the post and the info!!!!

I was diagnosed with endo in 2000 and with FM in 2002, but realize now that I have had both for most of my life. I had to do my own research and came up with both diagnoses and then told my doctors what I thought (after years of being misdiagnosed). The endo specialist I went to had never heard that there is a connection between endo and FM and he's supposed to be the specialist!

I have heard that there is a link between endometriosis and CFS, of which I have the most symptoms.

I was having heavy bleeding 20 odd years ago and had a hysterectomy. It was discovered then that as well as the fibroid tumors I did have endometriosis.

Do you get the feeling that everything is connected?

I have never had any menstrual problems. I had three healthy sons with no miscarriages. I went through menopause with the greatest of ease, but developed fibro a year later. I can't see how the two could be related. I'm sure men with fibro never had endometriosis. Unless, the fibro causes endometriosis.

I certainly see a correlation between endo and fms. They are both auto immune in nature. Just by the shear number of gals here on the board that have both tells me that they are related. I have had periods from hell forever and also have endo. endo came first, fms 6 years later.

I had endro when I was in my twenties. I also had bad periods whenever I was not on the pill to make them milder. I did have a hyterectomy at age 42 because of heaving bleeding and fibroid tumors.

It does seem all connected being their is so many of us.

put me on the list for this too. Now I wonder if I had taken cholestyramine before I had my hysterectomy if the endometriosis would have gone away.

I suffered years w/ painful periods. When I had labor pains for the first child, it just felt like the cramps I always experienced. Heavy bleeding, which I was always anemic. Then, a doctor moved in right out of medical school, understood cfs/fms and referred me to another ob/gyn who put me on ortho-cept and mentioned endometriosis. I was very fortunate that the orto-cept worked and controlled a lot of the symptoms! One birth control pill a day for about 6 years or more now. I am 50 and I know when my period is coming and it's actually been normal from being on the pill with mild pms. It didn't cure cfs/fms but it sure helped me a whole lot.

I have also read that there is a link between endo and autoimmune disorders. Specifically I remember it saying that women with endo should be checked for autoimmune disorders such as RA, Lupus, etc., and women who already have been diagnosed with one of those should be checked for endo as well. I had endo, had hysterectomy, suffered for past 3 years with arthritis type pain with no diagnosis, and finally got diagnosed back in jan of this year with RA! So I, like most of you believe that there is a direct correlation between them!!

I too had endo. Had surgery in 1994 and it returned so had hysterectomy in 2000. I had never thought about endo being connected to fibro, but there seems to be something to it. I just don't understand why the doctors can't connect things!!!
