I received an email list of stores closing soon and that you should beware of buying gift cards from these stores. I will paste the email below. That said, I will follow this list up with an article I found on Snopes. The bottom line, you definitely need to be aware of what stores are closing, but just because a store is on the list, it may not be going totally under. It may just be a re-organization. But some are DEFINITELY closing and you don't want to buy gift cards from them. Read the email, but read the snopes article, too. Here is the email (I rearranged the list so it was alphabetical and easier to read): ___________________________________________________________________________ Subject: Stores Closing I wanted to give everyone a heads up that if you tend to give gift cards around the holidays, you need to be careful that the cards will be honored after the holidays. Stores that are planning to close after Christmas are still selling the cards through the holidays even though the cards will be worthless January 1. There is no law preventing them from doing this. On the contrary, it is referred to as 'Bankruptcy Planning). Below is a partial list of stores that you need to be cautious about.
