    P.S. NOT by me!!!!! lolol

    Thomas Moore (1779–1852)

Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms

Believe me, if all those endearing young charms,
Which I gaze on so fondly today,
Were to change by tomorrow, and fleet in my arms,
    Like fairy-gifts fading away,
Thou wouldst still be adored, as this moment thou art,
Let thy loveliness fade as it will,
And around the dear ruin each wish of my heart
    Would entwine itself verdantly still.

It is not while beauty and youth are thine own,
And thy cheeks unprofaned by a tear
That the fervor and faith of a soul can be known,
    To which time will but make thee more dear;
No, the heart that has truly loved never forgets,
But as truly loves on to the close,
As the sunflower turns on her god, when he sets,
The same look which she turned when he rose.

Moore wrote lots of songs, sometimes just the words using old Irish melodies. Othertimes both.

The great work that he hoped would make him famous was a history of Ireland. Sadly it was not well received.

Hanginginthere, I love your poerty collection in your profile. :)

Unicornk, I'd love to hear the revised version! When it's ready, would you post it in this thread please, so we can read it? With all the brain fog, it's hard to follow anything that isn't modern. (I have to read kids books these days because I'm not well enough to read long sentences. I have to edit my posts SO many times before posting!! Gives me something to do though.)

Rockgor, would you sing it for us please? :) Just kidding. I do wish I could hear it though! I haven't gotten to hear a lot of Irish music. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about Mr. Moore.

MamaR, you're sweet TOO!!!!! :D Thanks!

Thomas Moore--I'm impressed! (That's coming from a former English teacher).

That's one of my favorites. I have a book of Celtic songs and one of the Irish songs has that poem for its lyrics.
I play the song on my guitar (and occasionally try to sing it).

By the way, I hope you're starting to do better!

And one of these days, you will get kissed!

True love is a heart connection between souls, not bodies or personalities.

True love is divine love pouring forth from the creator.

It's absolutely perfect! I'm going to print it out to treasure it.
