Does anyone else get lower back arthritis? About once a year, out of nowhere, I get a horrible attack of it in my lower back. Usually, it's in the summer months, but we just had some odd rain this week and bang. It's like a truck ran over my lower back.

I just took some Aleeve with lunch, so hopefully that will kick in soon. I didn't want to take a narc when I had to drive today.

This attack is seriously making me consider selling my car. I don't know how much longer I can do this. And if I need to take narcs I won't be able to drive.

I'm guessing the arthritis is Lyme, but I really don't know. All I know is, I've gotten these attacks half my life in my lower back and hips. And it's bad.

im currently going through the back pain aches. Its not like an injury type back pain just aches, probably a fibro type pain. It does tend to come and go and sometimes in different parts like neck pain or around the shoulder blade. I have a limited supply of durotram which is a slow release 24hr tramal, i find it is really good at breaking that cycle of muscle spasms etc.

Sometimes it doesnt matter how much you stretch, heat packs and anti-inflamatories, the pain is still there. The tramal is best i find with codeine type pain killers next.

just went and had an MRI (upon my request) and found out I have spondylosis which is degenerative osteoarthritis.

It started in my lower back (didn't do anything unusual) just getting out of bed and I have had the discomfort for a month now. Trying to correct my posture and standing tall has given me aches in the upper back. I just can't win.

So all in all, I think it's arthritis and the fibro sure doesn't help the matter.

Aleve didn't do much for me. I used a Lidoderm patch on the really sore area and took x-tra strength Tylenol. Some ice and heat always helps.

I going to the Rheummy tomorrow to see if this is something I have to live with (chronic ache) or if he has any suggestions. One doctor says PT--but they usually make me worse.
I have a page of bed exercises and stretches for the lower back. I'd rather do these at my own pace.

Yes I have arthritis in my back and its been there for years when I was dianogesd with fibromyalgia I had DDD and I think thats the main reason that I have fibromyalgia my DDD is so bad that I have no synovial fluids in my disc spaces I just found this out when I went to see a spine specialist he showed me my xray of my spine and showed how healthy spines look like and from T1-T9 it was healthy with joint spaces but from T10-S5 there was no spaces, now I am order a new xray and MRI . To began pain management and treatment for my back I will probabably have to stop working . the arthritis triggers when I over use my back by twisting, stooping , lifting and pulling or strecthing and even sitting for long periods of time and the rain makes me hurt almost the entire day.

TeaBisqit have you ever had MRI of Lumbar area ?
i did and have the bulging disc and facet arthrosis.
3 years ago i had the same Lumbar MRI and nothing showed up at that time.
i was just wondering maybe you have bulging disc also but not aware of it.
i also take muscle relaxant but i do understand what your saying about driving and taking meds
i will not drive after taking pain meds.
Just a thought for you, back attacks are horribly painful.

They have them at CVS (you can get them on their website too)-they stick on your back and are awesome.

I spent several days taking Naproxen. And the attack has subsided, but I'm still getting problems with my hips.

Unfortunately, the Naproxen has aggravated my acid reflux and it also gave me heart pain and pressure in my chest. Not good. Can't win either way. Take something for one thing and get something else from it. I only resort to Naproxen when I have no other choice.
