I do this sometimes. At first it scared me.

Now by optical migraine, do you mean a migraine without the pain, but you still have all of the other symptoms?

That is what I experience. I have had my upper lip on one side go numb just like at the dentist. Even my teeth on that side go numb.

I have told both of my doctors and they don't seem concerned at all.

I will be glad to see what you find out.

I have wondered the same thing, is it a mini-stroke.

Sorry you are going through this scary situation.

Just had to say thanx to all whom replied...just got CT scan & ultra sound done of my neck..and started with the script from Dr. Still scared out of my head...I live by myself...can't even think about going for my p.m. nap.

Pharmacist mentioned about the worrying signs from taking estrogon,,,, this drew a "RED FLAG"...what else could I take????...or do you take..or do I go off them altogether. Have been on them for 14 yrs such hysterectomy.

    Hi Karen

They have proven that estrogen is only good for hot flashes. If you are over those and even if you are not get off the estrogen but not cold turkey cause can cause a backlash of menopausal symptems big time. The only reason I know this is cause I quit cold and OH MY GOD!!! It was awful.

That is an awful long time to be on them and those can cause blood clots, breast cancer, not good for osteoperosis like they once thought so please talk to your doc about getting off of them.

Oh yes they cause migraines also.

I hope this has been of some help to you.

Your symptoms are a lot like mine. My left side facial numbness has eased off but it still there after a year where I had vertigo, left side numbness in face lips, eye (I also had the optical migraines three times-thought I was going blind!)

A year later I still have residual numbey feeling, I have similar to carpal tunnel in left arm and hand, and presently my neck feels broken.

I would ask to have an MRA of the neck and head(this looks at blood vessels) and also MRI if you have not had one. Maybe a doppler of the carotid arteries too.

This will put your mind at rest.

I was just told that what is probably cuasing this is median(l) nerve compression. I see the neuro in 6 weeks.

Feel better these things are scary. Always wise to make sure.

    Hi Karen -

I just wanted to throw in my two cents and say that you should also suspect potential cardiac issues when you have "left-sided" symptoms.

Women can have "silent" heart attacks - i.e. - may experience numbness on left side, particularly left arm, up to left shoulder, neck and ear.

I had a patient when I was doing my ER time whose primary symptom was left neck and ear pain and she was actually in the middle of a heart attack when we put her on the EKG.

She was denying chest pain - it was all referred to ear, neck and shoulder.

My mother's best friend had a heart attack while in the ER with her husband in the middle of HIS heart attack. The doctors BLEW HER OFF as a "hysterical female", the consequence of which is that she has considerable left ventricle damage because her husband's docs said it was "all in her head..."

If you KNOW something isn't right, keep at them until they figure out what the problem is, get your primary doc to help run interference if you think they aren't "listening" to you as well as they could be. This can make a world of difference.

I had to do it for my husband because left to the ER and subsequent services NOT provided he could have literally been permanently paralyzed going to physical rehabilitation for a back injury with NO DIAGNOSTIC TESTING.

I was able to call his primary, describe the situation and she got right on with his "service" admission doc. It wasn't until I threatened to have him transported to another hospital (with his docs and ins. company support - if you can believe it!!!) that he finally got an MRI.

    You keep on them.

who have replied & help..and especially cared to give your time to me...I haven't been able to take my minf off what has happpened.

I'm on my way to get further testing on 26th of May for echo cardio..and then to Dr.(specialist) on stroke prevention, although I panic with the call today..they said it was because of a few of the symptoms, is why I'm @ least there being through.

As for the comment made on estrogen...that will definitely be a "#1 factor of conversation when I go...there has to be an alternative to this's been to long on it...and now what if it's to late.

Promise I will update when I get my test results back. Once again thank you all for helping...I'm so scared and makes it worse when your by yourself. You all made me feel better when I signed in an knew there were you all there!!

How is your blood pressure? Have you been checking it?? If so are you taling b/p meds.? I think getting b/p apparatus for your home would be a good idea to check periodically, esp when you start having these symptoms.

I have had lots of hot flashes and still do, since I came off my estrogen. I was on them for years and got off them a couple of years ago because of my blood pressure which is high, although now fairly normal on medications. I am 65 y/o and am still having these dumb hot flashes.

Sorry but I have to run. please do keep a check on your b/p and keep me/us informed. I am so sorry that you have had to go through these scares !!!

    Blessings and ,
