    WELL, here's one for a laugh.......although I was crying...
As I posted earlier...on another post....I got up this morning and took my 100mgs. of Ultram and the other stuff my doc. suggests/scribs. for pain....About an hour later I was thinking......dang! I'm still hurting..not "quite" as bad...but as the minutes ticked by the pain grew worse! Three hours later I'm CRYING....walking the floor....wanting to lie down, can't because I hurt. The pain is unbearable!!! NOW, I call my sister who lives about 25mins. from me and say "Call DR. and tell them you have got to bring me in....THE PAIN IS KILLING ME!!!! She calls and is put on hold....in the meantime I decide that I am going to HAVE to take another Ultram! I can't even think straight....I feel like my bones are just being broken little bitty bits at a time....(how's that for explaining how some of this pain feels). I go into the kitchen, which one of the cabinets has now become a regular pharmacy. and pick up my bottle of "Ultram"...I now have my glasses on by the way........YEP......I HADN'T EVEN TAKEN ULTRAM IN THE FIRST PLACE!! I had taken 2 10mg. tabs. of Bextra...you know, for arthritis. They are shaped the same as the Ultram and even look the same. I just didn't have on my glasses this morning.....Thank God they weren't dog worm pills or something worse......Do I feel STUPID!!!
And, my sister didn't get through to the DR. so now I have taken the Ultram and hopefully all is well.
the two morals to this story are:
    1. Never take any pills if you don't have on your glasses, that is if you are old like me and can't read without them.
    2. I make sure you DOUBLE check what you are taking even if it is the "shape" and "size" of what you are meaning to take....
and If you don't hear from me in the next couple of days.... WORRY!!!! I just might have taken viagra or something and can't get out of bed......JUST A LITTLE HUMOR THERE GANG!!!!
Now I know to BE CAREFUL.......!!!!!
    love to you all,
and I hope you got a laugh or maybe just a chuckle out of my stupid mistake.....
    Love,
    Linda Sue
P.S. I'm really not crazy!!! Just a little dingy some times. and I DO realize this little funny mistake could have been FATAL!!

    Hi Linda Sue,

I hope by now you are feeling less pain. No doubt the Ultram helps with your pain as proven by missing your AM dose.

I use pain medication at mealtime...the effects of the medication is so subtle that it just takes the edge off of my back and widespread FM pain. Sometimes I will skip my noon dose just to see if it helps at all. I am happy to report that it does help me. When I play this silly game with myself I realize just how much it helps with the edge.

And this is with my glasses on!

It's healthy to laugh at ourselves and using your glasses is a good idea too ;)

    Fondly,
    Jan

I once took two of my blood pressure pills because I forgot I had already taken one. I was a zombie for 8 hrs.
Now, I keep a list on the refrigerator, held on with magnets, with a column for each drug I take. I write down every single dose I take and the time I took it,as I take it, and never take more than one pill at a time before writing it on the list, because I may forget which ones I took by the time I get the pencil back in my hand. This is not "fog", it's just that I am so Type "A" that I have already gone on to thinking about the next thing I have to do instead of concentrating on what I am actually doing at the moment.
I print up the lists on the computer. Each one lasts about 12 days, and I can get a good overview of my drug-taking patterns that way as well. This may help you avoid problems in the future.
    Hugs,

That sounds like something I would do. I now keep a pad of paper right by my medicine I have to mark everything down. I also have to check twice so that I have the right medicine. I can't believe how forget full I am. I called my Mother today. The stuff that she was telling me I already heard. She is 92 and does repeat things. Then I remembered that I called her last week. I usually only call her a few times a year. I marked that down in my date book. Fibro fog is the part of FM that I don't deal very good with. It is very scary. GAIL

Thank goodness you realized what you had done and were able to escape further embarrassment! It's nice that we can laugh at ourselves during these moments of idiocy.

My savior in avoiding this mistake: I have my husband put out my pills for the week in one of those pill box containers that has AM, NOON, PM, & BED. This way I never have to wonder what I'm taking or double-dosing. It also lets me know when I have forgotten meds (when I finally remember or question myself).

    Thanks for the chuckle! Lisa

Some days I can't remember if I took my medicine or not. And after a scare similiar to yours, if I don't remember, then I don't take the medication. I rather be safe (and in pain) than sorry.

I fill them on Monday nights. There's a section for each day and four sections for each part of the day. I was finding I forgot what I had taken and not taken until I started doing this.

It has made a huge difference for me. Between supplements and meds I take a lot and this is the only way for me to keep it straight and be sure I take what I'm supposed to take when I'm suppposed to take it.

Yes, that was a good laugh, but do be careful in the future.

I usually keep all my supplements in a pill keeper for the week, then I have a large desk calender that I write down what I took and the time too! I am a real kook when it comes to taking any thing than forgetting I took it.

I take a low dose Xanax at night, cut the pill in half, one night I forgot I took it and took another, I slept for 14 hours. My husband was so amazed that I was sleeping so well for a change! I was spaced out for the rest of the day.

I never trust myself with supplements and the Xanax since that happened.
