I have a question regarding dilaudid.
I very occasionally get a 'migraine from Hell' that would send me to the ER if I thought I could stand the drive.
My doctor gave me some dilaudid 4mg tablets for these really bad headaches. I also usually take 25 to 50 mg of phenergan for one of these nasties.
When someone gets an injection at the ER, what is the usual dose of dilaudid and the equivalent oral dose?
I would like to be prepared before my next 'killer', which fortunately is only about once a month.
By the way, I cannot take triptans or ergotamines because of severe rebound problems.
    Thanks,
    Rebecca

    Hi Rebecca,

A "normal dose" of oral dilaudid is 2-4mg. The IM (injectable) dose for that would be 1-4mg. So pretty close to the oral dose, but the injection due to increased absorbtion and such may be just a bit stronger.

    Hope that helped,
    Patty
