I'm so grateful that my CFS/FM has somewhat subsided recently, but they've oddly been replaced by my old affliction: migraines. Non-stop rainy, gray days aren't helping any.

I have been using the 024 spray, 600mg Ibuprofin 2xday, hot showers and a "rice-sock" type-thingie. But still, ouch. The pain starts at the nape of my neck and wraps up and around like three big arrows.

Does anyone have any natural-relief ideas? I'm not ready to start a new script. Seems everything I try (prescription-wise) makes me more thirsty, and I'm already thirsty pretty much non-stop, so any natural ideas would be appreciated.

I used to have a lot of things I did for relief, but the migraines aren't letting me think quite straight. I can't seem to remember my old bag of tricks right now :).

    Try 600mg of magnesium(active calcium and vitamin D)and 3-4 Biomega-3 (fatty acids)daily.

...from a book called What Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutritional Medicine May Be Killing You...by Dr. Strand

I just started it to help relax the muscles.
Dont think it is helping too much yet. But Dr believes it will soon.

I use bags of frozen veggies on my neck. that helps alot.

But the best so far is BIOFREEZE. roll on. greaseless, stainless, vanishing scent, for deep penetrating long lasting pain relief. ( i know i sound like a commercial )

I wish you some relief real soon!

    Take care and Be well,

I used to have headaches a lot. Certain foods trigger them and lack of sleep, stress etc.

anyway, I was at my sister's in Idaho. She and her hubby do Reiki and massage etc. One morn i woke at 5 to a horrible migraine. She got Scott to work on me. I layed back in a recliner with him behind my head. She put an ice bag on my forhead and Scott massaged my earlobes, yes earlobes and temples. It went away in 30 min and never came back all day. I've had my dh do this and it always works.

    Hope it helps

This won't stop the migraine but it nearly always makes mine back off a bit............Put your hands over your mouth and nose and breathe slowly, there's something about taking your air back in along with slowing your breath that can really help.

Had to stay home yesterday with a grinder of a headache,up at 2:20 take a Relpax, up at 3:30 take a Phenergan, up at 4:30 take another Relpax and an Indomethecin, up at 5:30, cry because I can't go to work, take a Skelaxin, call my vice principal and mumble apology, don't need sub, etc. Go back to bed, wake up at 7:30,go back to bed, wake up at 8:30, try to watch news with cold pack on head, give up and go back to bed.

I could scream bloody murder on those days. I did go to my neurologist who is a migraine specialist. He has me on:
225 g of Topomax am pm
    175 g of Nortryptilene pm
    20 mg Elavil
    300 ml Wellbutterin

I'm worried about the extreme thirstiness you are having. Has your Dr. checked you for diabetes? That can be one of the symptoms. Also frequent urination is another symptom.
If you haven't been to the Dr. in awhile, I suggest that you make an appointment and tell him about the extreme thirstiness and have him order a glucose level.

That stuck out at me like a red flag!

    Take care, Sally

I havent tried this yet, but I got a email with a list of remedies for various things and it said:

"Did You Know That? Drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately -- without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional "pain relievers."

Its worth a try and be very cool if it does the trick.

P.S. Here's the complete list FWIW:
Did You Know That? Drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately -- without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional "pain relievers."

Did you know that Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns.

Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose.

Achy muscles from a bout of the flu? Mix 1 Tablespoon of horseradish in 1 cup of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it as a massage oil, for instant relief for aching muscles.

Sore throat? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take 1 tablespoon six times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria.

Cure urinary tract infections with Alka-Seltzer . Just dissolve two tablets in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly -- even though the product was never been advertised for this use. (Note: Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold Medicine is not the same..and contains aspirin, which can cause stomach bleeding if you have ulcers.)

Honey remedy for skin blemishes... Cover the blemish with a dab of honey and place a Band-Aid over it. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin sterile, and speeds healing. Works overnight.

Listerine therapy for toenail fungus... Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again.

Easy eyeglass protection... To prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline Crystal Clear nail polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them.

Coca-Cola cure for rust... Forget those expensive rust removers. Just saturate an abrasive sponge with Coca Cola and scrub the rust stain. The phosphoric acid in the coke is what gets the job done.

Cleaning liquid that doubles as bug killer... If menacing bees, wasps, hornets, or yellow jackets get in your home and you can't find the insecticide, try a spray of Formula 409. Insects drop to the ground instantly.

Smart splinter remover...just pour a drop of Elmer's Glue-All over the splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue.

Hunt's tomato paste boil cure....cover the boil with Hunt's tomato paste as a compress. The acids from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head.

Balm for broken blisters...To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Listerine ... a powerful antiseptic.

Heinz vinegar to heal bruises.. Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and apply it to the bruise for 1 hour.. The vinegar reduces the blueness and speeds up the healing process.

Kills fleas instantly. Dawn dish washing liquid does the trick. Add a few drops to your dog's bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations. Goodbye fleas.
Rainy day cure for dog odor... Next time your dog comes in from the rain, simply wipe down the animal with Bounce or any dryer sheet, instantly making your dog smell springtime fresh.

Eliminate ear mites... All it takes is a few drops of Wesson corn oil in your cat's ear. Massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for 3 days The oil soothes the cat's skin, smothers the mites, and accelerates healing.

Quaker Oats for fast pain relief...It's not for breakfast anymore! Mix 2 cups of Quaker Oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave for 1 minute, cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your hands for soothing relief from arthritis pain.

... my father, the King of Supplements, had left Magnesium Oxide with me a while back. I just never got around to trying it.

So I've been taking 500mg of Magnesium Oxide before bed every night. Not a single migraine since :). Feel well-rested, too. I did have a headache that lasted a couple of hours, but compared to a migraine? Not a problem.

But can anyone tell me? Is napping a side effect? Now, I don't really feel groggy or "brain-foggy" -- but if I lay down to take a nap, I'm out like a light.

I meant to take a 20 minute nap yesterday. My son was playing a video game by my feet. I slept for three hours! He never woke me up! (Yes, he played that video game for three hours, LOL.) I missed a bridal shower, dang it.

But I felt absolutely terrific when I woke up :). She understood.

About diabetes, no worries. I've been tested twice in less than a year because of the thirst. No diabetes. But it does seem when I take prescriptions, the situation gets worse.

I swear some days that there is a tube -- just for water -- from my throat that circumvents my stomach and goes straight to my bladder :).

Sorry I did not get back sooner. Crazy schedule; still in a remission of sorts :).

Oddly enough, my ob/gyn has them weekly and he put me on a low dose blood pressure medicine for about a month and I haven't had but one or two since then and it's been about a year. Also a girl in the ER when I had one of the really bad ones stood over me and very very gently rubbed my scalp with her fingertips. It sort of takes your mind off the pain just enough to keep you from setting your head on fire!! I know you were looking for natural remedies, but this has really done the trick for me, so I thought I'd at least share it with you...
Hope you find something that will help!!
