our local news just had a report about Dr. Amand and the guai protocol so I quickly came here and did a search. Sounds like there is alot of controversy about this treatment. Please tell me about your experience (anyone!) on this med. Also can you get it via prescription or is it still taken off the market? Please tell me how awful you felt when you first started? Can one function and still work? thank you for your replies.

I have been on the Guai for 1 1/2 years and it has made a tremendous difference. I no longer need Morphine for pain, except on rare occasions, and usually take nothing for pain. My tender spots are much, much less tender. I have "remission" periods when I have energy, but I also still have periods of fatigue, although not as bad as I used to. I also have CFIDS, and I think until my antibiotic treatment is successful, I won't be completely healed.

You can do a search here to find all the posts dealing with Guai and you can do a web search to find Dr. St. Amand's website or search on Guaifenesin. I highly recommend his book, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About FIBROMYALGIA." It's a very good book on FMS whether or not you decide to do the treatment.

Once you understand the protocol and eliminate salicylates from your regimen (this is explained in the book), you just sit back and let the drug do its thing. It can take a little trial and error to find just the right dose.

My flares were not all that bad, except for the one when I went from 1200 mgs. a day to 1800 mgs. a day. I am now at 2400 mgs. as I wanted to speed up the process.

Mikki was wondering if you can now get it via prescription. On dr A's website he noted that they were taking it of the market for labeling reasons??? Thus, it was only available over the counter at 72cents per pill. I am going to a fms specialist in tacoma washington next week and will be asking about this protocol. hope your doing well.

You don't need a script. They sell it right here at the ProHealth store and it is cheaper here than other places. I've been on it for 3 weeks and I could never work with the amt. of pain it is causing, but I have been too sick to work for 17 yrs. now anyway. I am also taking too much in order to test it because I was so skeptical, and will be cutting back the dose as of tonight, because I am in so much pain it is raising my blood pressure into the danger zone. Get the book and read it thoroughly first as ALL salycilates must be removed or the drug will not work at all.

I asked the pharmacist and he said nothing has been taken off the marketplace and made OTC. It has been available OTC for a long time. ProHealth usually has the best prices and their quality is tops.

I take the Guaifenex LA and at 2400 mgs. a day, my insurance co-pay is cheaper than buying OTC for me.

Sorry I missed answering that part of your question.

Were you ever able to find phone numbers for Dr. Cheney and Conley?
