Anyone have muscle weakness with FM? I tried to do a search using those words and got - NOTHING! How can that be? Anyway, sorry to ask what has, I am sure, been asked before, but I could not find a thing by searching. I usually never have this, but the past two days my arms and legs feel very shaky.

    thanks and God Bless

Maybe see a CFS specialist to make sure that you have the correct diagnosis?

Yes, my muscles get v. weak during a flare. That is one reason why I used to need a cane & sometimes a walker. When my muscle weakness was at its worst, I was unable to do the 4 stairs leading out of my home & would be housebound for weeks at a time.

Some people have a carnitine (amino acid) deficiency or additional requirements & find that a carnitine supplement is helpful.

For myself, as I have made progress chipping away at factors contributing to my FM, I have much less of a problem these days with the pain & muscle weakness. I rarely need to use my cane any more, & can't remember when I last needed my walker.

My activity level is about 75% of normal for my age -- whereas before it was about 25% of normal. I say this to keep your hopes up -- there ARE some of us who are making progress at beating the beast!

    Best wishes.

Sorry Sonya that you are going through this ..

I too get muscle weakness , I used to be able to pour me a drink from the water filter pic we have with one hand . now I use two.. today is also a two hand for my hot cup of tea.. as my right hand is just not strong enough to hold it safely . Pretty much my arms , legs, hands. even holding the phone hurts after just a short while..

and to think back in the day I could lift very heavy weights for my size.

just wanted to let you know I too have this prob.

Best wishes my dear. , Prayers for better days for all of us.

I have lots of muscle weakness especially when the pain is intense. I'm also going through a constant phase of soreness and tightness right now. However, while this is common, if it came on suddenly, there's no reason why, and it's new, I'd still let my dr. know about it.

I'm with ya. When my arms/legs hurt, (mostly always), they are weak and shaky. Sometimes, I feel like my legs are gonna give out on me, and my darn dog doesn't help, he loves to come behind me and jump on the back of my legs, then I tell him he's gonna knock me to the ground, he just "smiles" at me, LOL. My hubby thinks it's crazy (and me for talking to the dog) that the dog "picks" on me. Anyway, sorry for the rambling. Have a good night, and God Bless you also!

When we dont get restorative repairing restful sleep, our muscles don't get to repair and renew, we build up lactic acids in them and they will HURT. exercise when like this ( at times any, or little) can add insult to this and cause more injury and it becomes a vicious cycle.
Massage therapy would help, I can't afford it, but helps rid us of the lactic acid that makes it worse....
I feel for you, been there done that hate it...
I smoke some weed at bedtime when it gets too bad to function so I can sleep alittle deeper if even for alittle while.
Try a Fresh ginger root bath( Buy in produce dept.), it helps sweat rid toxins then bundle up and get rest... About 1 - 2 " ginger root sliced thin like, oh--you'd slice tomatoe.
put with 2 c. water, bring to rolling boil, turn off, cover let steep for awhile til cools.
about 1/2 to 1 c. in warm tub , get in soak, stay outta drafts you will sweat...Bundle up so no chills, you'll probably feel either refreshed or nappy after, take advantage of it...Save the rest for next time, or sip some as a tea.....
Lemme know if it helps you, it sure helps me.

never wanted to mention "weed" on here, until I saw your post, Thank you soooo much for posting. It is amazing what a little "weed" can do. For me, it is truly relaxing!

Take care and look forward to more of your post.

    Have a great day!

More people need to admit it.
Gov. makes public think its so much worse than it really is.
NATURE grew weed, man didn't manufacture it so of course it is better
for us. Alcohol on the otherhand can be, is, much worse for obvious reasons.
Most of Gov's rules, decisions are made after or during power lunches and meetings and high-dollar dinners--thing many don't know or
realize is the number of Martini, Mamhatten, and other alcoholic beverages they've consumed --- and they run ( ruin) our country.
They will defend alcohol to the limit, or death if they crash drunk or maime or kill others...They have a tough time regulating plants...
Editing here) weed users need not be ashamed to admit it, why should we? we
found something that actually helps us in so many ways that we need relief.
It's a good thing and not a man made chemical....which poisons us and taxes our livers but not just our livers. Gov and Drs seem to prefer us be prescription junkies, they over prescribe antidepressants when they have
no answers....mostly to shut us up. They give us strong drugs to shut us up. THEY are in denial.[This Message was Edited on 05/14/2009]

I have been experiencing muscle weakness in my arms and legs during activities and during repetitive things like sweeping or washing dishes. When walking or climbing stairs my legs would weaken as well.

I looked this up and I found something very interesting and when I see my Doc again, this will get mentioned.

What I found was "Myoadenylate Deaminase Deficiency"- Most sites I went to have Myalgia in the symptoms. Just add Fibro?????

Definition - a muscle disease that interferes with the muscle cell's processing of ATP, the major energy molecule of the cell

Cause - a genetic defect in the myoadenylate deaminase enzyme, which affects the cell's ability to recycle ATP

    Onset - adulthood

Symptoms - exercise intolerance, cramps and muscle pain; often no symptoms appear

There are many articles on this and I wanted to put the basics here and then you can look at all the articles on-line. There IS a blood test that is supposed to help find this if you may have it.

Now about the "weed", This has been discussed on other postings and I will say my 2 cents here. This will NEVER become legal as long as the pharmacuetical companies have their lobbiest and controls on the goverment,

Think about it, they stand to lose billions if this ever became legal in one way or another. People would not need to go to the pharmacy to get the opiate based medications when they would be able to get more of this for far less price.

Headaches, backaches or other pain would be relieved with a simple toke of this that takes affect quickly rather then get an Ibuprofen or Asprin which would take 1/2 hour to an hour to kick in.
