My doggies' Mom died. Now I'm freaking out.

    She was only 4 years old and apparently had only one fully formed kidney. She had two litters of puppies and no problems but we had a power outage and it was very hot. I think she got too dehydrated and couldn't come back. Now I'm worried my dogs might have something like that. Of course, I can't stand the heat and I am never without them so when the power went out, they went to the hotel too.

    Calling the Shih Tzu expert (can't remember her name). Is the kidney thing a Shih Tzu problem?

    I am so sorry to hear about your doggie. I have no knowledge about the breed, but I just wanted to offer my condolances for your loss and hope the pups will be fine. Carla

    My brother bred shih Tzus and they all seemed to lead healthy lives and lived to be old. I think that having the one kidney and being used for breeding probably did it. Too much stress. Even if your dogs inherited the one kidney, if you don't breed them you should be fine I would think.
