I recently found out that my son chris is addicted to heroin and other drugs.

I need Gods favor in this, I would like to see him go to a very good hospital and maybe a half way house.

He is getting thrown out of his apartment and has been dishonest with everyone.

He also has a bi-polar disorder.

I went into his apartment and the place was trashed like nothing I have ever seen before.

He lost electricity so the frig smells of rotten food, there are empty liquor and beer bottles everywhere.

I'm going to have to clean out the place and store his furniture somewhere.

then I'm going to have to go before the court to try and get him help.

I am feeling very broken hearted, my son really has so many people who love him and has always had the best that we could provide, so I really don't understand.

    thank you
    Lisa

    Hi Lisa,
I'm so sorry to hear such painful news. My heart really goes out to you. I don't have children and I can't imagine the pain you feel for your son. Bipolar illnesses is a terrible illness. I know your son suffers horribly too.

Lord Jesus, this situation seems to big for me. I know that you promise to help us in the time of trouble. Lisa's family is in trouble today. Help Lisa to know you are present with her as she makes decisions. Bring forth your healing and peace to her family. Amen!

Lisa, my heart goes out to you, it must be so distressing for you facing this situation. I know it is hard to understand why these things happen. I am praying God will give you the help & guidance both you & Christopher need at this time.

Lisa, children can be our greatest joy and our greatest sorrow. I'm so sorry that your going through this trial with your son.

    Abba, Father,

You know Lisa's love for You and You know that her heart is breaking over her son's spiritual, emotional, and physical problems.

I pray that Christopher would stop all of these destructive behaviors and make his life right with You so that he would be made whole. I ask that You move whatever bureaucratic mountains necessary to get him help. I ask that You send into his life a steady stream of Christians who would sow the Word of God into his heart and be a witness of Your deep love.

Bless Lisa and her husband. Equip them for this journey. Give them the strength they will need to battle the enemy on behalf of Christopher. Give them the wisdom and discernment they need to deal with this situation. Most of all give them hope.

I pray these things in Jesus' mighty name,
    Della

You and Christopher are certainly in my prayers.

It sounds like what Christopher has is known as a dual diagnosis -- that means a serious mental illness (like bipolar), and a substance abuse/addiction problem. Many people with bipolar try to self-medicate with drugs and alcohol. However, there is excellent treatment for both of these together, and though it can be difficult, your son can get back to living!

Please know that bipolar coupled with substance abuse is a physical/chemical illness that manifests itself in distorted perceptions of reality and bizarre behavior. In fact, the drug abuse is usually a misguided attempt to remedy those terrifying distortions -- but it doesn't work. It has nothing to do with his turning his back on all the love and provision you and your family gave him. I'm sure he knows deep down in there that you love him still. He's just ill.

I know you both have a long row to hoe, so I pray for strength and wisdom and peace for both of you.

    Hugs,
    suzbee

Christopher is now with teen challenge, a christian based organization.
he has been there for several months.

Lisa, this is wonderful news. Praise the Lord. Teen Challange has some excellent programs to deal with drug and alcohol addictions.

I'am praying your son sticks with the program and is delivered from his addictions.

    Love,
    Della
