Hi, I need some help. I have had CFS/FM for 20 years. I have been getting by on aspirin and tylenol. I am afraid that I need something a little stronger now. This is going to be for long-term use, and I am wondering what is safe and doesn't make you sleepy? Any ideas?

I believe they are the best equipped to help manage pain. I was given Morphine which, of course, does make one sleepy, but if I took it at night, I was alert the next morning and the effects of it lasted all day long. Some like the time release form of Morphine (Kadian) but it knocked me out for 30 hours. Good luck with whatever you do.

    Love, Mikie

I now take lortab, two a day, usually in the middle of the afternoon. Sometimes I take it at night before going to bed. It helps me a lot. I found antiinflammatories did nothing for my pain nor should it as we who have fibro do not have inflammed muscles. Many drs., for lack of wanting to prescribe pain meds, will insist on antiinflammatories but I have yet to hear from anyone that they help. All they did for me was upset my stomach. I see a pain specialist who wants to help me and understands how frustrating and dibilitating this pain can be. Hope you find a good dr. that will help you too. Toots

Finding the right pain meds....is an individual thing, just like most meds and supplements, what works for one person with CFS/FMS may not work for another.

I take 2 50mg. Ultram, in the morning --only-- as they are like taking amphetimines for me. The are okay for light to somewhat moderate pain. I take vicodin for break thru pain, in afternoon, evening, or nite. I also take klonopin nightly which has helped my nerve type pain. None of these meds make me sleepy.

Hello Hippo. I take Darvocet for my pain. It doesn't make me sleepy but my mom takes the same thing for RA and it knocks her out. It's really hard to say because we all react so differently to medications. I always have the opposite effect of what anything says it will do. Good luck finding something that works for you.
