Sounds like you are in a very strong flair. I've only had this for about 2 years and that first year was the worst. At first I didn't know what hit me cause the pain was so bad and nothing seemed to work. My doctor just kept switching my meds. I was lucky though and my doctor said she didn't know what else to do for me so sent me to other doctors. Finally found one that I have seen now for about 6 months. He prescribed me a couple new meds and took some of the old ones away. I have also learned to pace myself. I know when I have over done it and then the next few days the pain flairs up. Hang in there and know that there are a lot of us going through that. Don't beat yourself up over what you can't get done but praise yourself when you do get something accomplished. There is not certian way to deal with this. Everyone deals with it differently. Only you know what works for you and if crying helps I would say buy a huge supply of Puffs. lol. Remember take things slow and easy. What you didn't get done today isn't going to go anywhere so once again don't beat yourself up about it just do what you can.

i have been on so many different ad's..allergic and supersensitive to the meds and others...just try to pull your self together alittle bit..if you cry on the phone while making the appt do so...i have many times...but they
understand....i had a huge flair...the burning pain fom my low back all the way down in both legs to bet..hurt burning pain...it is now getting alittle better...i had to take epsom salt bath...and just remember to be kind to myself....

i understand the part of living w/pain...i am not afraid to die i want to live and see what my 16 year old ends up doing in his life...i want to be a grandma and i pray that soon they will have a cure for us all....

Having that kind of pain is something that a lot of us here will understand. You are obviously having a tough time. There are no easy answers but it is possible to deal with it.

If you are not getting relief from your pain meds, talk to your Doctor about something else. Document your pain for him so he understands. When you are in a flare, you usually need the meds, at least for a while. Don't worry about taking them. You need lots of rest with good pacing of activities. Epsom salts baths have helped a lot of people too.

When you can, read old posts here. There are many helpful things that people are doing that have made a real difference. I hope you stay on the board. There are lots of caring and supportive people here.

    Take Care
    Kathy.

I recently posted about my experience at the holistic clinic. I will be going back in a week and a half. Please watch for my post. I am in Chattanooga and this clinic is right in the downtown area. You're close enough to make the trip if they could help you. In the meantime, try microwavable heating pads and hot water. Also massage helps me.

    Utvoldeb,
Hon, it is really hard to read a post in all caps. If you could next time post using normal letters it would be easier for all of us to read. It just seems to be especially hard for those of us with FMS/CFIDS to read all caps. Yes, it is the same as yelling--computer manners.

Also, sweety, profanity isn't allowed on the site either.

I do want to welcome you to the group. Just wanted you to know these things. It is very hard for me to read a post in either all caps or that doesn't have paragraph breaks.

People deal with pain in many ways. I have found that Prozac and Xanax help me a lot and Diclofenac, a NSAID and Cytotec, which is a stomach med to keep the Diclofenac from giving me an ulcer. I've been on Diclofenac for 9 years. It helps with the upper back burning pain for me.

Also I use Lortabs for pain. I try to only use 1 to 2 a day. Extreme days of pain can call for 3 of them, but usually I'm okay with just one on good days.

Heat can help some. Cold, like a pack of peas from the freezer can help some. Alternating heat and cold can help. Don't use for more than 20 minutes at a time. Don't eat the peas after you use them this way either. lol

I hope you will see your family doc and feel better. My family doc is the one who deals with my FMS, but I have been the round of neurologist, pain specialist, PT, and psychiatrists. The only one who really helped me was my family docs.

    Hugs,
    Faye

Welcome to our board. I am glad that you found us, and it sounds like you need somebody!

It is hard to cope with the daily pain, but it is something that we all have to do. You have to learn what is the best way for YOU to cope.

I think dwelling on it just makes it worse. When you are feeling bad, you need to do something that you enjoy--like reading, cooking, sewing, call a friend or relative for a long chat, etc. Take a walk. Exercise will help--mild exercise like walking or swimming in warm water.

Have you seen a doctor and gotten started on a routine of medications? Do you take anything to help sleep, like Elavil? Most of us are on an antidepressant--it helps the pain--Cymbalta is a fairly new one--I take it and it's great, I also take Neurotin for the pain and it really helps. I happen to take Zanaflex at night because the Elavil didn't work well with me.

I had a sleep study performed and found out that I have sleep apnea and now sleep with a CPAP machine and oxygen with improves my sleep. If you get the right type of sleep, it will help regenerate your muscles and therefore, help your pain level.

I take hot showers to relax my muscles.

A heating pad is my best friend--and is in my recliner every night as I watch TV.

You need to work with a doctor to get your symptoms manageable--they will never go away--but they can become more manageable.

You have to talk to yourself and tell yourself that you are not going to let fibro manage you--you are going to manage your fibro! You have to have a positive outlook, but of course, allow yourself a few down-in-the-dumps days, too! LOL

My personal motto is that I feel like it's a good day when I wake up and I'm above ground (and not six feet under)!!! LOL

Hope you get to feeling better, dear.
