I live in the St. Louis area and we just had a huge storm. I was without power and had to stay in a hotel for four nights because I use a CPAP (not to mention the heat). My insurance place can't tell me if the hotel is covered. They said I just have to file a claim and see. I don't want to file a claim if it isn't covered because I don't want the strike against me. I do have other damage but it won't go much over my deductible.

Anyone had any experience with this?

I do not know if this helps because I am in Australia.

Two years ago we lost power for about 56 hours after a big storm during a hot summer although there was no house damage. I roughed it out at the time and sat up for 2 nights trying to sleep in the heat and without my cpap machine (I found sitting up and sleeping a little easier to cope with without the cpap machine) but I did check with house insurance co. and health insurance co. after just to see. No coverage at all - for me.

read the contract (policy). A good agent would know.

I never heard of an insurance company raising rates because someone filed a claim that was not covered.
